I've lived in Parkville most of my life, and while we get burglary and vandalism, there's never been serious violent crime. Lately though it seems the city trash has been drifting up Harford Rd and getting more brazen. Last month there was an armed robbery and carjacking at the Autozone, now today there was an armed robbery and attempted murder at the gold place by the Emerald Tavern. Sh*t's getting out of hand. Perhaps we should just fence the trash in city.

If only it was that easy

Slit the tires on the MTA busses and that should help stop some of the crime.

Yes I mean that 'tongue in cheek...sort of.:innocent0

LOL, I've always felt that mass transit should not be allowed beyond the city line....the county crime rate would probably drop 90%.

I grew up in Parkville and lived there until I was 31. I moved out of state and when I moved back to MD 16 years later we looked to buy in Parkville and I almost didn't recognize the area.Very sad. Now I know how my mother felt when she would drive through the neighborhood she grew up in.

unfortunately its happening everywhere, up in my area I've said Joppatowne is the new Essex.

I'd rather live in Essex (and I do). Stay away from back river neck rd at night and Essex isn't bad, certainly not as bad as parkville.

It's because "the man" is keeping them down. :/

I don't recall Parkville ever being the kind of place that gave me a "warm fuzzy". Any place past the Beltway on Harford Rd. starts looking like typical Baltimore city BS. As soon as you see the first person on the corner trying to flag down a "hack", you know what kind of "hood" you're in.

These days, in this Obama entitlement society, there are two types of people...the people who can afford to pay more for a house than the state can afford to pay, and those who can't. If you can't, then you're going to be side-by-side with the riffraff that the state supports. Eventually that culture starts to eat at you.

The state just doesn't get it. They move the riffraff into neighborhoods one step nicer than their own and think the neighborhood will elevate these people, but for every one person who the neighborhood elevates, the neighborhood is brought down a notch. It can recover from a handful, but if you send more and more people to these neighborhoods, eventually they get overwhelmed. It's like dumping waste into a river thinking that there's enough water to dilute it, but if you dump too much waste, the river becomes contaminated and the system may never recover.

But that's the typical progressive mentality...sap every resource for everything it's worth, then move on to the next one. It's their fiscal policy and it's their social policy. Instead of isolating pockets of brilliance and encouraging them to thrive, they shoulder those pockets of brilliance with the weight of supporting the bulk of this state, until they too are crushed.

The champion of the poor can't be the champion of the poor without poor to be champion of. It stands to reason that he'd want EVERYONE to be poor, so he can be champion of them all. If they all suddenly started prospering, he'd be out of a job.

Something the poor are kept blissfully ignorant of.

My dad used to get the majority of his work in Parkville (he owns a Paving co.) and now he never gets any calls from that area. It was still pretty nice up until about the early 2000's but it noticeably changed after that. After all the WW2 generation got old and either died off or moved out lots of trash came in. All the neighborhoods we worked in were kept up and people cared about what they had. The people who have moved in could care less

This simply cements (no pun intended) what I was trying to say in my post. My grandmother's neighborhood was VERY nice until the early to mid 2000s. Yards were nice, the homes were pretty. I saw the writing on the wall when a day care opened at the corner of Baurenwood and Old Harford Road, and they paved almost the entire yard for their little bus to park.

I am near double rock, I guess I am still isolated from the crap you guys are describing. Everyone is either retired or works a blue collar job. I would not hesitate to walk down Harford rd to racers. If I'm working in the city, I will take north ave to Harford rd. There is no comparison to Broadway and north ave to anywhere in parkville. I plan on moving before my daughter is in school, but for a larger property. I grew up in Rosedale, I put parkville way above where Rosedale is.

I've been living in parkville just inside the city for 5 years. In that time there have been 5 murders within a few hundred yards of my house. This summer I heard multiple gunshots in a fatal shooting 150 yards from my front door.
It sucks having that element close to your home but overall I do like Parkville and my neighborhood is pretty nice with most homes well taken care of. Unfortunately there is a large section 8 housing complex nearby....

    my friend got shot yesterday:sad20:
Thank you so much everyone for all your care and support. I was robbed yesterday and shot in the foot before they ran off. The bullet passed through my left foot and broke some bones but I'm ok. I am still in the hospital so they can keep an eye on infection but hopefully heading home this evening and will be wearing a boot for several weeks. It's amazing how fast word travels and I'm very thankful for my incredibly large family of friends.

    Everywhere
THe City is tearing down their housing projects for a more affluent "City Life" for higher income folks thus pushing street level crime and lower income folks into the County. Happens in DC all the time with folks having (forced) to go to Alexandria, VA or PG County. However crime in Parkville has been on an incline for some time now. Strange, I do feel it's less busier in Towson, Woodlawn or Pikesville (City Line) say Park Heights Ave and Seven Mile Ln or Fallstaff...nahh Parkville even now in regards to calls for service ratio to those I mentioned cannot compare.
