Damn. I did NOT think of that.

I mentioned it in a more roundabout way in my first few posts. If BATFE decides to follow the trail HE will be the first contact. After that they may go after him for turning a blind eye. He thinks he is exempt from legal pitfalls because he is a LEO. He is sadly mistaken, especially with the current BATFE Administration.

Destroy the suppressor. That's the only legal way to make it legal and even then its not really legal just not as illegal as before. The crime has already been committed, its just a matter of whether the Man cometh to collect. I do not recall was the SOL is on violations of the NFA, I'll have to look it up. Nonetheless, your "friend" is in violation every day he possesses until he is no longer in possession. That being said, I'd like to know more about the ownership situation here. We have:

    1. Company
    2. Trust
    3. Individual

Who owns the damn suppressor? Who possesses the suppressor in real time?

Well I guess that you should report it then because now the same rules will apply to you, federal officer or not.

You are just some anonymous guy on the interwebs. None of us have the knowledge that you do regarding who has the suppressor etc.. We trust that you, as a federal officer who has sworn to uphold the law, will do the right thing. You will, won't you?

You have direct info and knowledge of the owner and the illegal NFA Device. WE DONT, theres quite the difference.

You do know that MSP and other Agencies look at this forum right? If asked the Site Staff/Mods may be forced to realy your info.

How did I turn a blind eye when the first thing I did was contact the ATF? And what legal pitfall am I subject to. The extent of my obligation is to notify the ATF it is not my jurisdiction to make a lock up.

The trust has the suppressor in their safe until this resolved.

Nope, I think you make an "I have a question" call. I doubt there was credentials or any details mentioned.

Did you tell BATFE the Original MFG Info for the Suppressor? Did you relay the SN#, or the Trust/Owner/Corp Info that currently has posession? If not then you didnt "inform" BATFE of anything. You just tapped on their shoulder and made them aware of something.

    :lol2:

I did. :D But maybe you're a special "Federal Officer" who doesn't have to report crimes. But still, coming here to discuss helping your "friend" continue to break the law is still 1) dumb and 2) against forum rules.

    I'm out. Good luck.

I think if you were to write a letter to the ATF describing the situation, including details and photos, you'll find out how the law dictates this situation should be handled.
