That one was of the things I got yelled at by the anal-retentive range officers at AGC for, running a patch down the barrel of a semi auto from the front since it didn't open from the rear.

So what are you thinking? The only thing I can figure is that the bolt was zip tied open. Someone tried to charge it and cut the tie in half, letting it fall down the barrel. Since it didn't have the barrel fully obstructed nothing "probably" would have happened. But good you checked it first.

It could have shot across the factory floor at some point and landed there. If it wasn't a poorly thought put prank. I found a cable tie in a muffin my wife made from a mix one time.

    10/22 zip tie in barrel

I purchased a new Ruger 10/22 the first week of January 1012. Yesterday I finally had time to clean it before taking it to the range. I found a 6 inch zip tie in the barrel. This gun was never out of the box before I purchased it. I don't know what is going on at Ruger but someone is going to get hurt. I contacted Ruger and awaiting their reply. Purchased at Gander Mountain.

Someone should alert them to this thread... I think they've got a personnel problem.

I just got off the phone with Ruger. They put them in there on purpose!!!!!!!!! They are thinking of stopping this practice. Da!!!!! They told me that they put them in there to prove the gun is empty. Does that make any sense to anyone. They will have a problem if someone gets hurt.

That's the purpose behind a chamber flag, but they are designed to protrude from the chamber, to prevent the bolt from closing on a round, as well as to serve as a visual safety indicator.

Sticking a zip tie down the barrel does NEITHER, and introduces an extreme safety hazard, to boot.

The individual(s) at Ruger behind this idea are complete idiots, and ought to be fired for gross incompetence.

It's a common practice to make empty camber indicators out of colored cable ties but you attach a flag to them and insert them from the chamber with the flag protruding.

I purchased a Ruger 10/22 from Dicks in Hunt Valley this week. It was in factory box and I brought it home, ran a cleaning rod down the barrel and out came a white zip tie about 8 inches long. This is a very dangerous and stupid on Ruger part!
