You do make very good points, most rail systems are a bit overkill and wind up going unused, or they get everything but a kitchen sink and mini-fridge hung off them, just seems to be the way they go depending on end-user.

Personally I went with a rail system for 2 reasons - Reason 1 - It doesn't wiggle like the plastic fantastic handguards do and my standard handguards got a bit warm for my taste, the aluminum is a great heat-sink., Reason 2 - If I do find something I just HAVE to have, it can be mounted.

That would be priceless, Dan would have to be there when you do that just for maximum effect, I can only imagine his reaction.

    :lol2:

That would definitely make it onto to You-tube, without a doubt.

Wonder if they make one of those in a M-203 version???? :innocent0

That'd keep people from knocking on my door.....

Hmm, me thinks I may have to get one..., 'Hello Jehovah's Witnesses....' :evilgrin3

I'd never do that..., I'd be strongly tempted to do so though...

YES, launcher and bayo..., there must be a way....

it might clear, theres like 1/32" between my bipod legs folded up and the handle of the bayo...so, it just might make it.

Hahaha, and here we were just talking about AR guys going crazy with what they hang off their rifles, nice to see that bug infects them ruskie's also.

If nothing else, it needs to be attempted just for the devilishness of a launcher and bayo, and bipod on an AK.

well the bipod would be a no-go...the launcher takes up that room sadly

That's the sad truth..., if your not going to the sand-box, keep it simple. I get a chuckle when I see Joe Blow with a designator on his rail in the 12 or 3 position, just makes me wonder, 'When are you ever going to need that?', Tac-light I can see the need, laser, ok fine...not my cup of (since your ruskie) vodka, but whatever floats your boat...

The launcher though, 40mm goodness?, how can you pass that up?

I'd need at least a few deuce and a half's to move things around, if that ever happened...

Well the rails on my 20" i have no choice for all that extra space. Its the nature of the beast. I like the ladder rails and xt panels for grip. I like te ability to add a light bu dont always keep it on there. I did have a vert grip on it but put it on my carbine. As for the verticle grip, thats more of a comfort thing. It also can allow faster movement for some. On my carbine, i love it. It also helps alot if i put a light or anything on it since my hands are bigger and cant get a nice grip if theres a light on on side. I also am not one for useless crap. I also agree, i like to have it just incase.

Is there anything you can purchase that can be legally fired from a 40mm launcher? Some type of flare perhaps? That would be too cool. God knows where you'd ever be able (or need) to use it; but just to have it. :)

i dont believe so...i think they make 37mm launchers/flares. but 40mm's are regulated beyond belief.

That's an interesting grenade launcher for the AK47. I've only seen the ones for the AK74, didn't know they made one for the 47 as well, let alone a version with the quadrant sight. The ones for the 74 don't shoot nearly as far as the 203, but they are shorter and handier which would be very useful in some situations.

Well, technically, the Mk19 40mm grenade can't be fired from the 203, and the Soviet 40mm won't work in either the Mk19 or the 203, and neither US round will chamber in the Soviet launchers. As far as the ATF is concerned, though, I'd say you're right.

the bottom rail is obviously for either lights, lasers or a extra grip...again though, not much space being used...and with a 5.56 do you really need a vertical grip?
Need? No, but some prefer it.

why not just use a magwell hold?
I personally like the magwell hold, but others prefer their hand much further out for better accuracy.

i dont know...just seems pointless to me...then again, im just a ruskie so what do i know :D
Here is a reason why I have a bottom rail:

    Bipod for the win!

I just wish there were companies that made a quality free-float system that allowed you to place the rails where you want a few years back when I was building my precision rig. Back then there were 2 choices - the YHM (which was mediocre at best) and the carbon fiber model from PRI.
