question...what's the best watch that does stuff for not alot(sub $300). I'm form<function. It would be neat to have a watch with a useable compass, altimeter, thermometer and so on. Any good watches with these gizmos built in that aren't huge and don't cost a ton?
this looks nifty

this doesn't look nifty but does a lot of stuff.

Suuntos are too fragile, I've been told. They can't take a beating as well as a Casio and their Water Resistance doesn't come close.
A few of the G-Shocks have some of these features - I think that's the Mudman line.
G9300-1
Tough Solar
Digital Compass
Thermometer
Moon Graph
Shock Resistant
Mud & Dust Resistant
Casio Pathfinder/Protrek. Here's the one I along with my buddy felt had the best features/functions at the best water resistance and price (you can get easily $100 off retail online on this one).

But, the coolest one I've seen in person ('cause my buddy wears one) is the Tissot T-Touch. For what it's worth, he sold his PAW1500-1V (mentioned above), and got this Tissot instead. It's a keeper, he says. He interchanges between the metal bracelet and rubber strap.
