Rex is very pro 2A. I contacted Troy Berry regarding gun issues and not sure yet if I can say the same. He didn't exactly answer my questions.

    My message to Troy Berry,
Sir, I am contacting you to get your official position and views on citizen possession of firearms. Recently Maryland passed SB281 (Maryland Firearm Safety act of 2013) which Sheriff Coffee opposed along with the Maryland Sheriffs Association. Do you support the idea of banning the sale of modern sporting rifles and magazine limits? Second, many states in the US are moving toward "shall issue" of concealed carry permits. While the county sheriff does not issue concealed weapons permits in Maryland, Maryland may eventually issue permits to it's residents. What is your position on concealed carry in Maryland? Do you believe in the "may-issue" stance Maryland currently follows, or do you support the idea of issues concealed carry permits to a broader portion of citizens? Thank you for your time.

    His response:
Hello sgar2600. Sorry for the late response. As you know, law enforcement is part of the judicial branch of government and does not create laws, unlike the legislative branch of government. I own guns and I enjoy sport shooting. I support the 2nd amendment and responsible gun ownership. The Maryland gun laws should protect citizens from the criminal element using guns for illegal activities, and not restrict law abiding citizens from gun ownership

His response was very well non-infomative. Sounds like a political answer. You should post in the paper and let others know.

I couldn't agree more Jim! Very generic and "safe." However, there is some phrasing in his response that should set alarm bells off in the 2A community, though. From my experience, "responsible gun ownership" and "gun laws should protect citizens from the criminal element..." is PC wordplay that GunSense advocates use to make them sound like they support 2A.

Critical thinking lawful gun owners know that laws only affect them because they're the only ones that respect laws. They also know that neither laws or cops can protect anyone or change the behavior of lawless individuals. To me, Berry sounds like a pro-govt guy that feels govt can save the day, protect us, and fix what ails us making more laws. He doesn't sound like man that respects the rights of the citizens he swears to serve. On the other hand, Coffey actually joined others Sheriffs across the nation to uphold 2A and not enforce unconstitutional laws. He has also said as much in his public posts online.

As an Independent, I think R's and I's got a raw deal and Berry shouldn't get too cocky calling this a victory for him when only D's were able to vote for him. I hope the rumor about Coffey is true. If not, both should be put on the ticket so ALL CC residents have a chance to vote. As it is now, Berry is NOT a Sheriff elected by the people....he's a Sheriff that was elected simply by a political party. Until he is more clear on his 2A stance, I won't support him. The only way he can protect my family and me is by respecting our right to self defense.

Turkey Shoot supporting Chris Chaffee for Congress

Chris Chaffee, Republican candidate running against Steny Hoyer in the 5th Congressional District, is having a Turkey Shoot at his farm in Calvert on September 14th. The shooting should start around 10 and go until about 4. The address is 2385 Stoakley Rd. in Prince Frederick. Proceeds benefit Chris Chaffee for Congress. He's also raffling a shotgun off. Should be a fun day.

As an aside, thanks to Maryland Shooters for the positive talk in the threads before this year's primary. I appreciate intelligent, informed voters doing their homework and realizing it's an uphill battle to take Steny out, but somebody's got to go up the hill. This year it's Chris' turn to take the shot and I'm behind him 100%
