While I have to admit I am disappointed by the process and outcome, realistically, I doubt there will be any meaningful change unless the economy returns to the depths of the crapper it was in 2 years ago.

The thing we need to be worried about more in the long term is the gerrymandering and incumbent fortification going on by both sides. How can a body with a sub 10% approval rating also have a 90% + incumbency rate? Are Americans really that stupid?

I guess the old saying "all politics is local" must have some meaning

According to some charts in the WSJ today, Obama lost ground in every category (except for a couple that stayed the same) of voter compared to his percentages in 2008. That's not a mandate, though no doubt his handlers will spin it that way.

The next two years will see Obamacare come into being, and eat our lives, while draconian taxation will reduce real income and increase unemployment to a considerable degree. No need to worry about losing the House in 2014; there may well be a sea change in the Senate by then.

Regrettably, American business will take the hit, and find some way to remain viable and even make a profit. The Obama team will spin this as a victory for their point of view, but chances are the economy will still be circling the drain.

Europe is going south rapidly; the French elected a Socialist who is now adopting the policies of his beaten rival to remain solvent. China is export-dependent to a huge degree, and will not prosper once all its markets have gone back into recession, which should happen by late next year.

If Obama adopts some of Romney's ideas, he could turn the slide around, but I read him as way too arrogant and assured of his own righteousness, so that probably won't happen. It'll be a rough four years, but it will give the opposition a chance (how many do they need?) to get their message together for 2016. Given the general level of intelligence shown by all sides, including the electorate, we're probably screwed in the long term, but, happily, in the long term I'll be dead.

BradMacc82's magic 8 ball says - 'We could be fvcked.' (and not in the fun way...)

I hope I'm just being a touch cautious, but I find genuine reason to be concerned. I find nothing trustworthy in this administration, nothing at all.

I expect 2A to be affected in any way possible using regulations. ATF will probably implement some more restrictions and redefine sporting or some other B.S. Mail order ammo may be targeted. I also expect to see an attempt to control private transactions and there's a chance that some republican congressmen may go for that.

I don't have a warm fuzzy at all. Wonderful lady Feinstein has already stated that she will call for an all out assault ban. Kind of ironic that her positions on abortions have killed more innocents than all type of guns in the last 20 years.

Legislation at the Federal level is dead, dead, dead. Obama was at his strongest in 2009-2010, but nothing happened. With the Republicans holding the House, and Harry Reid (a solid 2A supporter, for all his flaws) running the Senate, nothing will happen.

    Regulation? Harder to stop.

My fear is one of the pro-2A SCOTUS Justices retiring or dying. No, they won't overturn Heller or McDonald. There's a Mexican Standoff - Roe v Wade would go to the top of the overturn list. And every SCOTUS Justice would require Presidential-level bodyguards. No, there's a reason why the Supreme Court doesn't overturn itself. But it would preclude further improvement of our situation.

I'm excited to see the showdown between " hope and change" and legalized pot. Without a doubt his supporters favor legalization, when he cracks down let them see the emperor has no clothes

Regarding the future of the 2A: On the federal level, try as they probably will, there will still be a stiff enough resistance from us on the legislative side so that no further erosion will occur, at least in the short term. The problem is, Obama will load the courts with like minded anti 2A socialists, and thus, the 2A will die from a thousand cuts.

On the state level: I fear that with the engineered defeat of Roscoe Bartlett at the hands of O'Malley and the Maryland Politburo, the upholding of the aforementioned redistricting, the legitimization of in state tuition for lawbreakers, and the attack on traditional marriage, the left with their increased stranglehold will launch an all out assault on the 2A, and there won't be a thing that will stop them.

I fear that we are entering some dark times....

The thing is we can never say never. obama has already done so many things people thought he would not get done.

I'm just going to start tuning people out who go on about "executive orders". I really do weep for the state of civics education in the US.

As I said in another thread...

We are potentially 1 SC vote away from a 'reinterpretation' of the Constitution...
We are a few votes away (and who can really say which direction a given elected official will swing?) from the Senate voting against 2A issues...
The House can swing back to the Ds in 2014...

Don't ever forget that the D platform calls for renewal of an AWB. When, how, and under what circumstance they will try for new restrictions is anyone's guess...but don't for a minute think someone won't try...

And, as predicting election outcomes shows (No pres in history ever got reelected with such high unemployment or low approval...until now), don't rely on historical events (read: 1994 AWB) as insurance that things are safe...

    Dream on ...

The 2012 electorate was bought and paid for, and they will continue to get more freebies to do Obamarx's bidding. I see more and more entitlement 'D's joining the ranks of the unemployed, and gov'mnt and union payrolls with their hands out in exchange for their vote.

Be prepared for The HildeBeast or Moron Owe'Malley or both in 2016. Without some major shakeout we will be Greece in 8 years or less. And, with any luck, I'll be dead and buried by then, so make sure that they place me face down so the progressive liberals in the PRofMD can ... :kissass:

I think my wife put it best: "This is what happens when those with their hands out put their hands up."

I agree. There will be no new amendments. The sky isn't falling. It might be cloudy and stormy, but I don't see huge changes. Like I said before, the gerrymandering and the whole electoral college are the real things to be concerned about.

Here's an idea for the Right Wing... instead of spending so much time and energy and money on yelling at nameless, faceless "liberals" and trying to defame Obama and all his supporters, how about putting all that energy into a moderate, respectful, and collaborative initiative that educates the nation about individual responsibility, dedication to your nation and the Constitution, etc., and all the related sub-issues that flow out of those principles. When all the Dems were voted out of Congress, it was hailed as a "message" from the American people. After an election like this, it's "money bought the votes." Sorry Republicans, it's reality-check time; this isn't 1985 and the demographics have changed drastically. The "middle class" doesn't make $250K/yr and women don't have sperm-killing venom in their uterus. Gays are here to stay and Russian nukes aren't aimed at Alaska on standby. This is why I'm Independent and refuse to vote down any party line.

I was disgusted when the Fox Noise commentator, minutes after Obama's acceptance speech, took his 30-seconds to point out that the next election cycle has already started and we're only 1000-whatever days away. I get it, he doesn't like Obama or the Democrats. But at SOME point somebody has to put the politics and posturing aside and start to look at making measurable progress. Not just kick the can down the road and wait (or hope?) that things will get so bad that the tide will turn.

Another four years of "it was Bush's fault" and "stall until Obama fails" and "let's take a vacation since we can't make a decision" in Congress and across the country will hurt this country much, much more than if Obama, Hillary, or heck Ralph Nader were President.

Can the USA stop the political BS for a year? Maybe two? And get off our asses and get to work? I promise it won't hurt.

The problem is this president makes so many executive orders and manages to pass laws that walk all over the constitution.

Where do you get your information? Obama has not issued excessive EOs, that is a myth. Further, the President (Executive Branch) does not pass laws (the Legislative Branch does) and Constitutionality is ultimately determined by the Supreme Court (Judicial Branch).
