I feel that in it's 100th year, it is my patriotic duty to acquire a 1911. I need help figuring out what to get. I have a couple requirements:

    Ambi Thumb Safety
    Tactical Rail

edit: Try to keep it around $1000

Why a rail? If you skip the rail a standard RIA Tactical would only cost you around $500-$525 + sales tax.

The S&W 1911's I have looked at have look nice. they have a decent reputation as well.

Seems like most people don't know that Sig makes 1911s.

I ordered a Sig STX 1911 about two years ago. I waited and waited. No fault of my dealer, but he called the sales rep about it several times. His sales rep from Sig had jerked him around about when the gun would ship.
Three months had gone by and they still had not started the gun. The rep had no idea when the gun would be done. I cancelled the order and bought the Smith. If I walked into a shop and found what I had wanted, I would probably buy it if the price were right, but I am not about to order anything from Sig again.

A Colt new agent, is in the shop waiting to see me. Since it's the 100 yr anniversiary, it has to be a Colt.

I rented a Sig 1911 at On Target on Saturday. First time shooting a 1911....needless to say, I -need- one now.

Don't forget to consider the Remington R1, no rail though.

It comes in 3 flavors: Standard, Enhanced and Centennial.

The Centennial is not going to come in at $1K, but the Standard and Enhanced will be under 1K.

I have the standard R1 on order with an industry partner.

    Worth considering.
