    So it's gun cleaning day.

I can't get my "Sear Deactivation Lever" down on either my S&W M&P 40 Compact or the XD 40 Compact.

I'm pushing so hard, I'm fearful the lever will bend.

This has never been an issue in the past. I've gone so far as to dig out the manual to see if I'm missing something.

I guess I'll put a drop or two of oil down there and see if that will loosen things up.

    Anyone else have any ideas???

Are you sure you're not trying to push down on the ejector?

Looking down into the ejection port with the slide locked back, the ejector is the rigid rod thing that projects forward on the left side. It's not supposed to bend.

The "sear deactivation lever" is the little zig-zag thing that's sort of under the ejector. It should be folded up, normally( sort of folded up against the breech face). I poke mine with the point of a pocket knife, and it folds 90 degrees from vertical to horizontal with virtually no resistance.

    (That's on my M&P. I don't have an XD.)

On the M&P, can't you alternatively just pull the trigger (like a Glock) to remove the slide? I swear I've disassembled a few M&Ps in this fashion.

    I'm about 99.99% sure you're right.

(I suspect the OP has got his pistols stripped okay by now.)

are you supposed to turn it or push down...I dont have one of these but it looks like you are supposed to use this "frame tool" to manuver the lever...which to me looks like it turns/flips not pushed down/in...thats what the statement pushed in means to me...i could be wrong...
