    Hi all,
I have an M1917 30.06 bolt action that I am looking to have scoped. It was sporterized by the previous owner - barrel cut down a couple of inches and the rear sight "ears" milled off. The bore is good and the gun shoots decently, although it's difficult to gauge accuracy with no sights.

I would like to make this into a general purpose hunting rifle - deer, boar, etc. I have done a little work on getting it back up to spec, but now am looking at having it scoped. Nothing fancy - I'm thinking a basic 3-9x scope will do.

Anyone that you guys can recommend? These M1917s supposedly have really hard, brittle metal in them, and the consensus seems to be "find an old-timer who knows what he's doing".

    Any advice would be appreciated.
