A friend of mine bought a Savage model 99 takedown, on closer inspection he noticed the barrel had a bulge in it.
Anyone local (hour or two drive) that you all would recommend to re-barrel it?
    Possibly caliber change?
    Thanks

Boy that's bad news, I don't think I have every seen that EVER in a 1899! What caliber is it?

Takedowns used a different barrel and they had both full and quarter turn configurations. I am not aware of a source o easy replacement barrels. They do pop up on Ebay occasionally, ranging from $200 to $350 depending on the barrel. Ive never swapped one in so I don't know how hard it would be to headspace or if they had tight enough tolerances that its a non-issue. If its an odd caliber most run of the mill gunsmiths wont have gauges.

Hate to say it but he may get a better return parting it out if its a fairly vanilla configuration/caliber.

i would suggest shooting it first. he may be surprised that the accuracy isn't affected.
