The 386 has a blast shield to protect the top strap from flame cutting. The frame is Scandium Alloy. There has been many reports of the blast shield cut in half by the flame and falling out of place. So sticking with a steal framed 686 or 586 do not have these flame cutting issues.
If you check out the S&W forums, there's a good deal of hate for the 386 XL. Marauder is correct. I suggest sticking with the 686. The 686 Talo models are especially nice.
Thanks for the info, when I went back in the Gun shop a guy was selling his S&W 64-2 snubby (orignal owner, in good shape) and I decided on getting that instead.
Yeah I got lucky with the 64-2 and saved about $450 on top of it. I am looking forward to shooting it in the 4 months when my paper work gets back can anyone suggest some good grips to get for it? It has the original walnut grips but they are pretty beat up.... any info is appreciated.
