I was going through some brass I picked up after shooting with my neighbor, and found this.

By the firing pin hole marks in the primer, it was fired though his Gen4 Glock 19. These were factory Federal American Eagle 147gr loads.

    Any ideas?

    Sgt Preston here...

    Too much powder...

An overall length set too short...

It also could have been simply a defective brass casing...

It is also possible that it was an old casing that had been reloaded too many times...

In any event there was too much pressure inside of the case...

The primer mark does not look at all unusal - sometimes the marks are elongated from rolling off the firing pin, when being ejected. I see that on cases somewhat frequently - in various semi auto calibers. If it piereced the primer - that would be an issue. But primers markings alone dont always give good indictations of overpressure

The split however is not common.

I showed the primer just to show it was a glock.

I've had a fair amount of these using Winchester White Box ammo, looked exactly like that. Other than not being able to use that brass to reload, there were no other problems.

This is why I don't buy American Eagle. I see more and more guns blown up as a result of this garbage. I'm under the impression that the foreign cheapee-ammo by S&B et.al, or local reloads are of far better quality. Not trusting my guns to this crap, or WWB anymore.

Original, factory loads per the OP.

    It was my firearm.

please check other brass from that brand you have. In my experience most factory ammo has brass colored primers. I'm thinking you found a to many times reloaded case. Or, it was a bad case, wouldn't be the first time it has happened.
