I'm in the final process of assembling the parts for a retro AR-15. I'm at the point of installing the barrel.

My question is around the use of the/an action block. I have one of the hinged variants, however it did not come with the 'insert' that I have since seen on some of the AR parts web sites. Is the use of the insert required? Can the BCG be used in its place?

Insert is a must unless you would like to crush your receiver. see if anyone near you can loan the right block or better yet barrel blocks.

Thanks...that's what I was afraid of.

Anyone near the Annapolis area that can loan me the insert?

    -tnx,

    Jeff

p.s. I wonder why the various dealers at our local gun shows do not provide the insert.... :nono:

Because you only need one for all the builds you may do.

It is a tool, like a barrel nut wrench, pin punches, etc.
