    Lots of guys will press the barrel a couple thousandths too far so that it won't close on a go gauge or live round and carefully dress the locking lugs with a jeweler a file to get a much more precise fit than what you can get with a press. I've used this method and it works great, but should only be used for a couple thousandths. I try to get the press fit as close as possible but some barrels and trunnions want to "skip" over that sweet spot. The toth tool barrel tool works pretty well too.

    I use dimes, pennies, and nickles to protect the barrel chamber face when pressing stuff out. I then use a 3/8" socket extension and an appropriately sized socket into the press.

    POP And it's out.
