I just bought a Rem700 chambered in 300 Blackout. I don't know much about the rifle or the round. Im looking for a scope that can cover 100 yards to 600 yards that will work well with the rounds available for that rifle. This would include high powered as well as subsonic. Anyone know where I should start looking? any suggestions for brands or models? Thank you.

That's a good start. thanks. I think the higher power is the way to go. I plan on stretching this round out to its limits.

I am a big fan of Vortex these days. Very good scopes, good features, and SUPURB customer service. Lifetie, transferable, no questions asked warranty. You drop it, they fix or replace. You run over it with your truck, they fix or replace.

I have a Viper PST 6-24x FFP on my 700 (.308) and have taken it out to 1200 yards.

I'm a fan of Vortex as well....and the new 4-16x44 HST model at about $500 is unbeatable for value.

With that said, I have a brand new Weaver 4-20x50 FFP that I'm looking to get rid of.

.308 @ 1200 yds? Is it accurate and predictable at that distance? (I had no idea it had legs like that)

    It's do-able.

Longest confirmed kill with a 7.62x51 round is around 1276 meters, IIRC. Hold was like 12 feet high and 7 feet left of target.

The 300 BLK is not a 600 yard round.

It has the ballistics of a pistol round.

    .357 Magnum/Maximum

    A 2x7 or 3x9 scope is all you'll need.

    A subsonic 300BLK is not a 600 yard round.

A supersonic 300BLK is capable of 600+ yards, but only if your hunting paper or steel. ;)

    Yes!

I should have added that the bullet will get to the target, but it won't be effective.

I always think in terms of hunting.

The 125 grain Hornady SST spire points (#3019) will have more muzzle velocity and will cut the air a tad better too.

I was able to squeeze more velocity out of the 110gr Vmax's than the 125's - 2420+fps for the 110's. Admittedly a hard load on the brass though.

But they were a little more prone to being blown off target in a full value wind past 300. But for the shorter range stuff, incredibly accurate.

On many setups a set of 20 MOA offset rings is needed to push a .308 to and past 1000 yards. Depends on the scope and how much adjustment it has. But in reality most shooters at that range use 6.5 Creedmoor or 300 Win Mag.

Even with a 20 MOA rail, I have to use a bit of hold over also. My scope will do 15 mils of elevation with the 20 MOA rail.

This will be a "quiet" toy for the range (subsonic ammo) and I might want to reach out and touch some steel or paper at <600yards (supersonic ammo). As for hunting, I'm sure most shots will be at less than 150 yards with hunting ammo. So far all I see online are the Nikon and Leupold that are specific to this round. the Leupold is out of my price range. Vortex has been mentioned a few times. Im now comparing Vortex with the Nikon.

I went with the Nikon for now. We will see if I like it. I got a one piece scope rings set up on recommendation, and I hate it. $60 down the drain. I'm looking for base and rings again. thank you all for input. I will post up a review of the rifle and optics as soon as I get to the range.
