Andi's thread about distinctive apearing AR-15s , dredged back up an idea that periodically floats up.

Is there any reason you couldn't do an AR in Nickle/ Chrome. Yes , I know some processes are for ferous only , but some will work on alloy frame handguns , so why not an AR ?

Yes , but my first 1911 was finished in bright nickle. It dates me , but I liked Nickle guns , before matte stainless became the default. As we used to say "make the BG think you were aiming the bumper of a '57 Pontiac at them. The intimadation factor vs the stealth ninja look.
