Looks both East German and new to me BUT there are no identifying marks. It IS pretty heavy and well built so that makes me think it's the real thing........... what do you guys think?

To be clear, I'm not saying it's junk. It's clearly built for business. The wide front notch makes me think the clear plastic face mask mates there, as part of a riot uniform.

I'm pretty sure that I saw those last year on a site that deals with surplus. It may even have been the on the website for Keep Shooting, in Waldorf, MD. Not sure. They weren't reproduction, but they weren't anything that I found exciting at the time, either. (But I don't collect helmets or uniforms.)

Why would anyone fake an East German helmet?

    This.

My Uncle is a helmet collector. East German helmets used to be the holy grail till the wall came down. Afterwards? they were cheaper than ash trays.

They just don't have the collector value to be faked.

ya these have been available all over for very cheap, east german surplus is all really cheap, i think of it like the spoils of war, we won the cold war, now we buy all their military stuff for pennies.

some years ago, my brother and i bought a pack of their service hats from sportsmansguide, simply because it was 40 of them for like $15, thats 40 hats for $15, how can you say no to that deal? lol.

i also got a bunch of military branch pins for like $10 they looks cool,

but ya, it would actually cost you a lot more to fake a german helmet than to buy one.

they're in such good condition simply cause they didnt see a lot of use and they're mostly not all that old.

Eastern Block helmets have gone down in price significantly since the end of the cold war, just because there has been literally tons of them imported for the collector market, if you have a smaller head then you can get anything you want but if you have a larger head and want a certain type then you may have to order them from overseas, which can mean $20-$30 just in shipping charges.
