So I am in the process of reading American Sniper and last night I read a passage where he indicated that he did not "dial in" for windage but just elevation. His reasoning was that the wind is constantly changing and by the time you dial in your scope to compensate for the wind, you have either lost the shot, the wind has changed or both.

This got me thinking to real world situations, is this a good thing to do or should you still do your best to make windage adjustments?

I would say it would come down to how much is the wind is changing and what is your time you have to take the shot. If you have an open window on time I would dial it in and wait for the wind conditions to come back to as close to your reading then take the shot.

I'm not a sniper, but I dial for elevation and hold off for wind.

A day shooting prarie dogs in the wyoming wind was perhaps the most instructive day of rifle shooting i ever had.
