Sadly this isn't in my collection, actually expected it to hammer for a bit more than $385 so I wasn't watching it when the listing expired. It's a stupid rare barbed wire cutter for the Ross or Pattern 14 rifle. Most of the time when I see these they're incomplete or battlefield dug and a mess. There are repops out there as well. This one rang all the right bells. Doesn't get much cooler than this accessory for a British arms collector!
Last photo from milsurps.com shows a Ross and SMLE with wire cutters mounted.

I saw one at the last York gunshow on a SMLE...for display, not for sale. Until then, I didn't know such a thing existed. It's a brilliant and fascinating device...that I'm glad I've never had to actually use. I've dealt with barbed wire...it's a worthy enough foe on it's own. I can't imagine battling it while taking fire!

Very cool. Didn't know this existed.

Me either. That is VERY COOL !

I know very little but I find the history of military weaponry/tactics fascinating, and love learning new stuff. It's an constant and never ending battle.......somebody comes up with a new weapon or tactic and someone else devises something to counter it

Here's what the French used on Lebel and Berthier rifles. You shot through the wire with their version. Not exactly stealthy for night raids!

There a lots of repop copies of the French wire breaker out there. I have seen some originals, but again, most were roached and a fair number looked to be battlefield dug examples with significant pitting. These were made from simple sheet metal so they didn't survive the elements well over the last century.
