I wonder how many training videos are going to have this in to prove a point?

    This.

Kevin over at Dukes had some real winners in the videos he played in class, but I think this guy has them pegged.

Plan D? Not worth the hassle.
After watching the video several times, I think that he was removing the gun from his IWB holster and was then attempting to put the gun into his coat pocket. He couldn't get the gun into the pocket. He must have bumped the trigger while holding the gun in that awkward grip. You can actually see the round hit the right side of the elevator door and come back at him.

    I thought that as well...but..

    1. Why?
    2. No pocket holster?
    3. With a Glock... I presume...

Anyone else think gun in pocket with no protection for the trigger is a good idea? I don't.

I can't feel sorry for him.
I think he had a holster. 2 hands when reholstering.
I like how she made sure she got the food off the elevator along with her purse.

From reading several sources about this event, I've come to believe this.

He removed his pistol from his waist carry holster and was trying to put in his coat pocket. Why? He was in a known high-crime area parking lot and wanted to walk to his car with his hand on the gun while it was still concealed in his coat pocket so he could he could deploy it more quickly if required. He had difficulty getting the pistol into his coat pocket and inadvertently pulled the trigger while struggling to get the gun into the coat pocket.

Did anyone else notice that the box he was carrying was full of donuts? He is going to gain some choice nicknames from his cop buddies.

Be safe. Ridicule for a Negligent Discharge is forever, especially if it's on video and on the Internet.

F'ing moron. Absolutely no reason to be touching his weapon. If he was really concerned about a high crime area he should have made his wife carry the food so he would be prepared for any threat.

See I considered that, but,if true why in the hell would you not keep your hands free..

She should be carrying the packages,or she should be on point ;)

Never mind the wisdom being in the area in the first place.

But it makes the most sense of any alternative I can come up with.

I'm glad everyone survived. I'm sure that he's embarrassed beyond belief.

It's not possible to embarrass a jerk like that! He should be suspended and given more training, or maybe a permanent vacation, if he were drunk and playing around, which seems to be the case.

Just looks like complacency. Continues to chat, pulls out gun perhaps for adjustment, struggles with long coat but doesn't worry about it AND has finger on trigger. Too comfortable with gun.....

I agree completely, this is a good lesson for all of us honestly since something like this could happen to any of us. Maybe a different situation, but regardless, the possibility is there.

Careless. Lucky he's the only one injured by his mistake.

Cell phones don't usually work in an elevator.

Should have immediately secured the gun.

When handling a loaded firearm there is nothing in the world more important at that moment. His behavior was wreckless.

I was on a surveillance many years ago, sitting bored to death for hours with my partner for the day he tells me he shot himself by accident while handling a gun in a car. He proceeds to tell me that virtually anyone who's around firearms long enough will eventually have an accident.

Why they gave him a badge is beyond me.
