that would be a hard sell in VA. Even here in liberal Northern VA there are large numbers of gun enthusiast.

As a (nearly) new resident of VA, I see it as a true "battleground" state for many issues including gun rights. There's a fighting chance of pushing back on these issues in NOVA, and I plan to be involved.

The battle for gun rights in MD will be, IMO a MUCH harder battle, if even winnable at all. We will have to rely on the referendum, court cases and maybe elections to see what happens.

In VA if enough people speak up and demand they back off gun issues, I think they will actually have an audience in the legislature that will listen. VA allows open and concealed carry and isn't the "wild west" the libs always warn about.

I did some studying on that recently, and in Abilene "one of the 'wildest' western towns", the murder rate between 1830 and 1845 was something like 1 per 100,000. Or, to put it differently 31 times LESS than the murder rate of 2007 Washington, D.C.

I think a 'return to the wild west' would be a big upgrade for places like Chicago, D.C., etc.

Tim Kaine does not represent the majority of VA residents when it comes to the 2A. NOVA is a microcosm of Montgomery County, PG, DC, et all, but that's it.

Yes but liberals are like parasites and locusts. They move to a new area to get away from the bad they came from and then proceed to make the same dumb laws that trashes the state. What got Maryland to be so liberal was the fact that they gave section 8 housing in montgomery and howard county. Very easy to buy votes. Why do you think MoM wants to give illegals drivers licenses and congress wants to legalize illegal immigrants?

Remember, VA just passed a law requiring ID to vote. Unlike in MD where you just walk up and say your name and you just walk in. VA is a different state... and while it has been drifting a little more to the left as of late, it's definitely not nearly as bad as MD.

Here is what you need to show to vote in VA:

    Virginia voter registration card

    Valid Virginia driver's license

    Military ID

Any Federal, Virginia state or local government-issued ID

    Employer issued photo ID card

    Concealed handgun permit

Valid student ID issued by any institution of higher education located in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Current utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck indicating the name and address of the voter

Social Security card (*please see below as the social security card does not satisfy special federal ID requirements)

"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
    ― Alexis de Tocqueville

or, as originally stated by Tytler, "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy."

The problem is that we have too many young, too many poor, all looking for a leg up because of all the ******** myths going around about "wealth distribution" and the "1%". They'll keep voting for that leg up ad infinitum, never realizing that it's socialism. And as the late Margaret Thatcher was quoted as saying,

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."

They don't even need 2 or 3 of the IDs to qualify to vote, they jsut need ONE. Getting a student ID from a college is simple work. Even easier is the utility bill...

    True.

Guess where they don't have section 8 housing. Chevy Chase and wealthy parts of Potomac. And those are where the politicians have their million dollar homes.

Currently, I have about 5 thugs in separate units renting next door to me. They usually last about a year and then move on.

Problem is, someone recently saw them exchanging money.

I just wish MDShooters wouldn't vote for Anti's. I wish their conviction would be greater than a "indifference" to a hobby called Plinking.

    Jump ship!

While true... it does (and I hate to borrow this language) deter fraudulent voters.

That law should be strengthened, but my point was missed. In Maryland you simply walk up and say a name. There is absolutely NO identification required at all. Hell I bet you could drive a robot in there and have it say someone's name, and the judges would let it in because no robot is "illegal" either....

The state will become a liberal paradise in five years. That combined with the crushing traffic in NOVA and high property taxes, makes it a no-go for me. I used to live there for five years, too, enjoyed it for the most part, but I won't return.

Yep, none near me either. Near 270. Fine by me. I just don't think like them but benefit from their hypocrisy.

As much as I love VA gun laws try finding a nice single family home for less than 600k anywhere in NoVA. Back home in Baltimore county 350k can get you a large home with a matching yard. I dont think its possible to raise a family here

Virginia is in danger of going Colorado. Virginia has all the right elements to make Marylanders want to move.

Unfortunately, they fail to understand that their policy choices lead them to want to leave Maryland, so they push the state to the left, thus creating the same thing over and over.

I've lived here in NOVA for most of my adult life. I went to middle and high school here. I have no problems staying, and quite frankly, it's a bit disingenuous for people in Maryland to cast stones at us here where a little pocket of liberalism exists but it's the loony left controlling Maryland. If you want to move here, we'd appreciate more right minded people to offset the idiots coming down here now. Thanks.
