Corps and trusts do not bypass a background check. When a trustee or corporate officer pi ks up an NFA item via their Trust a 4473 background check is initiated for that trustee or corporate officer. Its in the NFA handbook.

I didn't think the background check was bypassed. If it was, everyone would have a trust.

One thing that would be nice is if we could use the comment period to perhaps get the ATF to accept electronic finger printing so we don't have to use their forms. also remove CLEO sign off, and perhaps a secure site to upload our docs electronically as well as a site where you can put in your serial number and get a status with out having to call them. Every time I call for NFA I always find them very pleasant and helpful, but I feel like I'm wasting their time that could be used to process paperwork.

    OK, guys...

The NFA changes have been discussed for about a week. Basically, they are trying to severely limit the trusts, but are deleting the CLEO signoff requirement - which is why people were doing trusts in the first place.

As to reimportation, I'm not sure. It appears that CMP is not affected, as they don't reimport arms...the Government does, then turns them over to CMP. CMP is chartered by Congress, they will have a definite say in the matter. What it is likely to impact are the Korean M1 Garands and M1 Carbines that they have been trying to import for the last 5 years or so.

C'mon guys, this will keep our streets safer. No longer will thugs be able to go down to thier local Kwik-E-Mart and purchase a re-imported Winchester 1907 with a box of .351 WSL "to go." Imagine the carnage such a military-grade weapon could inflict!

(yeah, you'll have to use your imagination regarding the "benefits" of this EO.)

Can the other members of the trust use a NFA item?

My ignorance on NFA and Trusts is great. :o

Other Trustees can, BUT if the Trust is worded properly it should state that disqualified Trustees, either by criminal disqualifiers, or mental incapacity are inelligible to serve as a Trustee should meet any standards.

NFA examiners are paying attention, in the past month the NFA Branch has ki led back 3 NFA Trusts at the shop I work at. All of them were completed by Attorneys who draft NFA Trusts. They were minor errors that NFA will allow correction but they never did this in the past.

I'm missing something. I read it as it applies to US made weapons sold or donated overseas to other countries and then being brought back into US.

Thank you for actually answering his questions, while not going off on some massive irrational rant that doesn't remotely answer anything. (See page one)

These were my questions as well. I know very little about the trust process and was wondering the same as Robert.:party29:

From the article this will just end up ruining C&R in general but parts kits (AK47s) will be fine. I didn't read the EO just the OP, time to get reading.

On what planet has a corporately owned NFA weapon EVER been used in a crime? When we find that planet, I'm sure thugs everywhere will be jacking people up with imported M1 Garands.
