Behold, my 1st M44 and my 2nd Mosin. This one isn't in nearly as nice shape as the 91/30 I bought from Dan's Ammo, but I like the character of it. Seems like a mixmaster through and through, with various arsenal stamps all over and some electropenciling on the butt plate for good measure.

Anything interesting about it that a noob like me can't see? I'd hoped to pick up a #s matching M44 of some variant, so this won't be my last purchase...

Any pics of the complete rifle?

I'm going to pick up mine this afternoon. I'm hoping for matching numbers. Widener's advertised these as Excellent +, which i would have assumed included matching numbers. Kinda bummed that's not the case. I think these are Molon refurbs, and not actually arsenal refurbs.

Mine's going to be a shooter anyway, so I'm not that concerned....

I think you did a pretty accurate assessment on your own. It's a scrub-a-dub, mix'n'match, late-war Izzy with nothing spectacular that I can see, but you'll still have a blast making early evening fireballs.

I'm not a fan of the Archangel stocks. There's nothing like the true beauty of the original wood...

However, they would make the Mosin a lot more comfortable to shoot!

    • It's your gun.
    • If it's reversible, and you save the original parts so it can be put back 100% original, it's not a sin.
    • It's your gun.
    • If you put it into that stock, it's no longer a C&R.
    • It's your gun.
    • I think the M44 is far more attractive in its original condition than in that Captain Zoom plastic holder.
    • It's your gun.

If I was going to "Bubba" an old Mosin Nagant, I'd do it to a cheaper, more common variant, an M91/30 round receiver, not an M44.
