Del Mike Smigel reports on his Facebook page that the Governor has chosen Del Hershey for E.J. Pipkin's seat.

Why did they let the Governor decide?

the governor was given the option to choose, because the central committees couldn't agree. thems the rules.

obviously the governor chose the best republican for the democrat party.

Well I guess a congratulatory note to Senator Hersey is in order, and a donation to Delegate Mike for his Senate run in 2014

Did anyone really think that the D machine would pick the biggest thorn in their side? It's all about control, not what's right or wrong.

    Not unexpected.

Hershey isn't a RINO... but close.

I wonder what he had to promise the Gov to get the job. Then again it could just be how much the Gov doubtlessly hates Smiegel.

He didn't have to promise him anything. Hershey has already shown that he will cross over and support the Governor on at least one occasion, by signing on a sponsor to at least one bill from the Governor. He also has no spine when it comes to controversial amendments, as he was give an opportunity to bring up a floor amendment for SB281 and then folded when it came time.

And that amendment is not the only time he has folded on submitting amendments, he has a history of not trying to rock the boat when he is needed to.

The GOP in MD really needs to get their act together...honestly, allowing O'Malley to choose....no surprise he went with the RINO.

Since one party tried to do a shakedown on this (changing the rules midstream , lambasting one committee for not doing interviews but ok with Cecil for not doing them, his COS breaking the ethnics code but since his biggest enemy the AG said it was ok even though the Md Ethnics Website says different ) . OweMalley finally made the right decision could it be that he looked at the 2010 General Election results and choose the Delagate that received the highest percentage of the voters of these 4 counties and not the one who received the lowest?

I hope Smigel runs we can get rid of him as a Delagate and then defeat him for this seat
