My new Mosin Nagant

I finally decided to get a Mosin Nagant today and I can't say how much I really love it. Next purchase will be a SKS. Thanks to yellowsled for his help in educating me.

built in 1939. pre-war

All that means is that the stock is a post-war replacement.

Whats the best way to clean up that stuff? Doesn't it harden after a while?

Russian cosmoline never hardens. It's made with vodka!

Strip It and use mineral spirits to get 99% off. Then when you shoot It the heat will melt the rest . Take a rag with you to the range that day

Everyone has their own method. I used boiling H2O on the steel and the cosmo just disappeared. Then hit the barrel and receiver with hoppes 9, wacked it with a brass brush, mop, patches and lightly oiled. Only used a few old dry t-shirts to wipe down the stock 25+ times. Worked for me.
