A 1911 is a 1911. Contact Rachael at the Handgun Board. I'm pretty sure they will consider that a similar model to the B9 since the only major change is capacity.
Like the B9R isn't quite as aggressive in slide cuts as the Prodigy, but there are no MIM parts at all and its several hundred dollars cheaper. Since I am basically looking to sell/trade in it's more in my price range, so it might be an entry into the 2011 world. My other thought process here, is most likely if I replace my 9mm, my MP9 will become a safe queen, so why not sell it? I'll never shoot it. Hell I'm considering selling my MP45 too. Maybe, just MAYBE my MDS RIA 1911; I don't need a crap ton of guns, just a handful (heresy right?)

If they run right, they will open a lot of people to gun games. Its not a carry gun no matter what they call it.

But now you will have an affordable 17 plus round single action trigger that can replace glocks and other pistols for people who do games. Parts are ever where, holsters are everywhere, its an easy button for a poor mans gamer gun.

    Good Morning,

The link you sent me was for a 1911 Carry Double Stack, but you referenced the 1911 Carry B9R, which is a separate model. The difference between the approved 1911 CARRY B9 and R model appears to be "a picatinny rail on the frame for added versatility." The difference between the approved model and the Double Stack is cosmetic features. I typically receive a handful of Tisas petitions each round, but unfortunately, I have not received a petition for a 1911 Carry Double Stack or 1911 Carry B9R as of yet. A petition form would suffice without the sample as the inquired models are merely external cosmetic variants of approved models. The models would have to go through the HRB process as model additions in order to be specified on the Maryland Handgun Roster. Model additions must be petitioned, considered and voted up by the Board, and if approved, go through the vetting process. It would be at the discretion of the Board, but there are not normally any issues with these specific firearms being approved. The petition may be emailed, faxed, or mailed. Petitions are due by May 15th for the June 5th HRB Meeting. If approved by the Board, the firearm should go in the next Maryland Register issue on June 28th. You have to allow 30 days for objections and if none, the firearm will be legal for sale and on the handgun roster on July 28th.

Weight, I know that is subjective. Also barrel/slide length is not the hard part to conceal. just because they cut 3/4 of an inch off the barrel/slide does not make it suddenly a better carry gun. If they did a commander sized one with an aluminum frame I would say its closer or actually being a carry gun.

edit to add 5 oz different on a staccato p steel vs aluminum frame. 5 oz is a pretty good difference

I have the petition loaded on another tab, as soon as the wife is done her meeting I am going to print, fill it out and email it to the board.

I'm working on getting the letters I need for my RI carry permit, they have a hard limit on 10 rd magazines up there, so when I visit my parents I'm limited (and not even like 17 rd mags only loaded to 10, like 10 round mags or jail!) so it'll be my single stacks anyway)

I was looking into a double stack 1911 9mm; The Tisas 1911 B9R Carry is enticing; Looking through the roster the 1911 Carry B9 is approved, would the B9R fall under it? I Don't want to attempt to look at getting one just to get denied by the stasi.....and well; don't wanna poke the bear either.

I had similar issues. FFL put in my P365 XL NRA. NRA model not on list, put in "other "!

Yea my initial inquiry to Rachel was basically, I didnt want to waste the FFL, MSPs or my time on the initial buy, wanted to make sure it was right. I have no doubts it will be approved.
ETA: I have no illusions I'll be winning any sort of competitions, I just wanna get healed and go out and have fun shooting

That's not even remotely true. Until recently, they didn't even allow for a pistol of the same name with a different model number. I posted about my whole debacle when I ordered a Dan Wesson Valor 1911 - it had been discontinued in 2018, but re-released in 2020 with some slightly different features, and also with a new model number. When it finally showed up at my FFL, they couldn't transfer it to me because even though the Dan Wesson Valor was on the roster, that particular model number wasn't - I had to petition to have it added.

The "good" news is that the model number requirement is no longer a thing, provided that the model name is already on the roster.

According to Rachel, the person in question, it is remotely true; his implication is that while it has to be processed, it doesn't need the sample etc process, it's merely a submit and discuss on the board, since it's functionally the same it'll be approved.
