I hate to start a thread on this, but I couldn't one of the ones where one of these was already posted. So here goes.

These mini shotguns are apparently brutal bastards to shoot.

Would they work, and be a little gentler on the hand with these shells?

Won't cycle in a pump, would be fine in a SXS, I love them in my coach gun. Of course the recoil is harsh, although it's not unshootable, birdshot or managed recoil buck and slugs are not as bad as you would think, it still has around 5# of weight and a comfortable grip, so IMO less recoil than a moderate 500S&W in an X frame or 50AE from an Eagle, about the same as full power heavy 44mag from a 3# revolver IMO, never shot a 3" out of one.

I bought a few boxes of the mini-buckshot, birdshot and slugs. They would not feed in my mossberg 500 and 590 unless I loaded them one at a time. They shot well though, pretty much no recoil in my full sized shotguns. Single shot/Double barrel wouldn't be a problem though

Depends on the lifter. I know on my 500 it's not a solid piece, I think the 870's have a solid lifter?

The mini shells fall through the opening in the lifter and jam up.

My mini buck cycles perfectly well in my Maverick. Had one FTE, but I blame user error. I didn't work the action briskly enough. These seem to like firm handling. No problems with the lifter at all.

got a super shorty. birdshot shoots fine. 3 inch magnum buck makes a 3 foot flame. I'm afraid to try some black magics or SSTs
