Thanks! Bluing is 98% with some wear on the top edge of the butt plate. Bore shines like a jewel. Totally disassembled it (including removal of the gas piston, and complete teardown of the bolt/pin/extractor). It was dirty, but cleaned up well. Put 10 rounds through it yesterday just to check function, and it shoots great!

The gun is crazy light (think 10/22) but I didn't find recoil to be particularly harsh.

I inherited one of those from my grandfather, and love it. Recoil isn't bad, it's easy to be dead-on accurate, and - I've heard - it can really sit a deer down fast.

Take down is a bit tricky, but only a hair worse than the SKS - IMHO.

If I can get a little more range time with it, I might take it hog hunting in TX in February. I suspect that 240g @ 1700fps will knock down just about anything within 50 yards.

I've actually never heard of these until I came across them just this week while reading "The Anarchist Cookbook". I want one very bad! Nice pickup!

Photo is from my 1971 edition of the cookbook.

I hate you! JK....nice find! They are sweet and I would like to find one that isnt crazy priced.

Yeah, the early versions in particular are commanding premium prices.
It stands to reason I guess as Ruger has completely moved away from this market and I don't see them coming back.

Mine has a tubular magazine. The later versions have the rotary (ala the 10/22)

What else is in the Cookbook?

I gotta admit as well that's beautiful!

Precursor to the Ruger Police Carbine?

Thanks. I don't know if they're directly related. My guess is that they aren't.

EDIT: now that I look at the police carbine design, they're different. The .44 Carbine like I have is a short stroke piston design. It looks like the police carbine is direct blowback.
