I built an SBR with a 10.3 inch barrel. It came in just a tad over 29 inches

8.5 won’t be legal. Caliber doesn’t matter. Barrel length does

If it started as a rifle you cannot make into a pistol. If it starts as a pistol you can make it into a riflen per BATF

    It's a pistol lower
Get yourself a Just Right Carbine extended buffer tube and a stock with a longer length of pull. I have a MD legal AR SBR with an 8.5" .300AAC barrel.
This build has been posted on MDS.
    Thanks for the reply

Make sure to take a picture in case you need to show anyone of you measuring it. You have to make sure to trim it real close or shave before you measure. It makes it easier and it looks bigger too.

In case the ATF or MSP ever ask for you to prove its as big as you are claiming.

We are still talking about how long your SBR is, right?

If you put folding stock on an SBR and it has a flash suppressor too that makes it a copycat and illegal in MD no matter the length

Even with a folding stock 29 inch minimum still applies

If it's a Law folder, I can't imagine it could be subject to denial. You can't operate the gun with it folded.
