I reached out to the Maryland State Police & State Attorney General's Office last month due to conflicting statements regarding the current legal status of being able to legally carry a concealed firearm at State Highway Rest Areas. To my pleasant surprise, they actually listened to me! Their website is now updated to reflect this change. https://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organizat...singDivision/Firearms/WearandCarryPermit.aspx

MSP hasn't officially allowed anything, since they never disallowed it, and neither did State Statute. The only thing MSP did, and contiues to do, is misquote State Statute.

This got changed back in 2014, and sometime around 2018, it changed back. I and others have no faith in the MSP website, and this is NOT a win.

Thank God, so many of us were getting jacked up at rest areas.
In the movie blue thunder there is a scene where the helicopter company man says, " we kill only one civilian for 20 terrorist, that is an acceptable number" to which Roy Schieder says, " unless you are the one"

    Little wins are still wins.

Until MSP stations troopers to stop and frisk anyone using the rest areas, this is sort of pointless.

Imagine you stop at a rest stop, on the way in you trip over a curb and break your ankle. EMS called and you get discovered.

I know it is a stretch but that is exactly why I don't carry in post offices. You never know what may happen.

If you are off the belief nothing can happen then why even bother to get a permit in the first place?

This might not be a victory after all with SB1; the new language in 4-111 could be read to say that rest area buildings are no-go. I don't think we will get an answer without a test case.

    §4–111
    (d) (1) A person may not wear, carry, or transport a firearm in a government or public infrastructure area.

    (2) A government or public infrastructure area specified under subsection (a)(4)(i) of this section must display a clear and conspicuous sign at the main entrance of the building or the part of a building that is owned or leased by the unit of State or local government indicating that it is not permissible to wear, carry, or transport a firearm in the building or that part of the building.
