It's a shame when you look at the domination of the legislature by extremist liberals from 3 of its 24 jurisdictions. Looking at the sponsors of the magazine bill, all but one of them is from either Montgomery or P.G. County or Baltimore City (the one outlier is from Baltimore County). 5 of the 11 sponsors are from MoCo alone. It's as if the other 21 jurisdictions don't even count any more.

BTW noticing we have an unusual number of guests in here tonight. Just be aware. I wouldn't be surprised if some are from the other side.

I'm tired of hearing all the hand-wringers from Crackmore trying to make their problems my problem. I don't live in Crackmore, so why should my rights and the rights of my fellow Marylanders suffer because the ghetto people can't stop slinging crack, popping out babies like a Pez dispenser, and shooting each other?

Oh and the church people can tickle my nuts. I'm tired of their sob stories about how Tyrone had a promising future as a neurosurgeon until he was cut down in his prime buying a 20 dollar rock............errrr I mean going to the library to study for his exams.

Sorry, but I'm in a foul mood right now after wasting a day listening to those people.

I'm kinda new around here and not what you would call an activist or lobbyist by any means. I've gotten back into hunting over the past few years and only more recently have I gotten back into more firearms "hobbies" in general. But following this ordeal has been an eye opening experience to say the least. Society has been dumbed down by social marketing as the internet world has blurred the lines between factual reporting of the news and public opinions. Any idiot can write a blog/commentary/"news article", get a grand ole stage, and the general lemming public says "gee, it must be true."

Listening to the events of today was like listening to a congregation full of those idio... I mean... people. Someone made a snazzy line that "guns kill people", then someone suggested that "high capacity magazines let them kill more people", and someone else blathered that "more little laws will stop horrible people from breaking big laws", etc., etc... and these people believe it. When did everyone's internal circuits get turned off that lets them decide for themselves what is right or wrong, and what are facts or opinions? I don't need to preach on this, the whole choir is here. "Decoy" said earlier...

As gun owners in Maryland, we have been doing nothing but "giving". Pretty soon we will have nothing left to "give".

That pretty much says it. Call me pessimistic, but I don't think society will suddenly develop more common sense over the years. It is scary to think about what little of our rights will be left in 10 or 20 years. My point is ... THANK YOU ALL that are out there ACTIVELY working to protect our rights. I for one, am just starting my involvement in securing my children's right to one day make a choice for themselves whether or not to keep and bear arms.

Ray your right they did move and I was so happy to be one of them. I had one friend that moved 2 years before I did because of the MD bull$hit and I now have another friend that is moving this spring because of the MD bull$hit. That is three families earning in the top 5% that said F.U. to the liberals and took their tax money with them. I was also amazed at the number of people I met while living in MD that magically spent the exact number of days as a Florida resident every year.

They're not too bright. Liberals never learn despite the data. Case in point - after the Democrats' Millionaire tax passed in Maryland:

    * Taxes paid within that bracket fell by 22%
    * Rather than taxes increasing by $106 million as they predicted, they instead fell by $257 million
    * The number of millionaire tax returns fell from 7,898 to 5,529
    * One out of every eight millionaires in Maryland either moved to another state or died (that break-out was not available).

And yet they still support their socialistic economic policies.

Why then would we expect them to act rationally when it comes to guns?

Anyway, thanks much to all of the folks who showed up and testified or submitted written testimony today. I would have joined you, but my wife had surgery yesterday and I had to be with her for 24 hours.

I tried to watch online but the connection always failed. Looks like the GA IT department hasn't gotten this working well. Oh well, I did send the whole committee an email on the bill.

Limiting magazine capacity on the premise that "Nobody needs that many rounds in one magazine." makes about as much sense as putting one gallon of gasoline in your tank at a time. You can have as much gas as you want, in cans, in the trunk, but you can only put one gallon in the tank at a time while driving. You just have to keep refilling the tank. :sad20:

The logic of these people is unbelievable, but the arrogance and rudeness is unacceptable. They are our representatives? They represent themselves and their own twisted, self interests. They let the plebians have their little word time. Now, their own words will drown the cries of the unwashed peasant hordes as they bestow upon us their infinite wisdom and righteousness. They, the annointed ones will save us from our own ignorant selves.
"Silly gun-owner, 10 rounds for you! You are fortunate our good graces allowed you so many. Now, go away and exalt our names."

It sounds good on its face but the bill is very poorly written. Off the top of my head, I don't believe it specifically excludes hunting. It seems like yet another solution in search of a problem, opening up a giant can of worms in the process.

Thanks. I figured it was something along those lines.

    1. How many people at this hearing were there for the first time? Seems like SB 162 has "activated" quite a few people!

    2. For those of you whose schedules didn't let you go, did you make a contribution to MSI or SAF instead? ;)

True, this is an awesome analogy. It can still be sent to them via (e)mail though.

Lisa Gladden? A mental midget who is mostly just enamored with herself and has a superiority complex. For God's sake, she brought her DOG to the hearings today. :sad20:

I remember she brought her dog last year, too. I was beyond shocked when I saw her walking it around the rotunda - what a perfect example of our elected officials believing they are entitled to things the little people are not.

    My Impressions

Crap I wish I or somebody else there yesterday had thought of that.

I thought of quiet a few things while setting there. Sadly, I was unable to get there by 11:00 and get my name on the list.

I was VERY tempted to grab a spot when they called a name and that person was absent, but that wasn't my best idea.

Next time, I'll ask a member here or a committee member to make sure I get a slot/sign me up.

Tact is not my forte :lol2:but sometimes when you have someone with a bit of an edge, it chases folks into the arms of the "moderates." Like Ghandi looked moderate compared to the others using less peacful means.

In any case, it was downright scary to see how legislation gets done. So many are simply misinformed, have zero understanding of the subject matter and really don't have a firm grasp on the statute as it stands, much less their proposed bill and it's effect.

Some of the members (dark-haired lady on the left hand side and the lady who took over for Frosh when he left briefly) were talking amongst themselves and dialing a phone. I found that to be tremendously disrespectful. Oh - I'd have stopped and asked for their full attention. It's a slap in the face to those who took the time to appear and then be ignored while they are speaking. Truly shamefull.

As far as SB311 (IIRC - the Gun-Free Educational Zone) - what a freaking joke. Holy hell - the guy who read the bill just had that look about him and his reading suggested he is a "look what I did" kind of legislator. Sad really, very sad.

Even the puppets who testified in support had zero confidence in the bill - you could hear it in their voices. Nary a single one could say with any confidence that it would have any effect. Shank went easy on them, but his questions had the intended effect. Truth be told, I have a cat that is smarter than some of the people supporting this bit of folly.

The SB regarding the 18 month minium sentence is THE WORST. Hale must have been mentioned before I arrived. So you forget to drop all your mags - BAM 18 months! Such garbage that can hurt a law-abiding citizen. This is by far the biggest threat to gun owners.

Mag bill - well dressed gent (Bill?) who was, among other things a forensic man, was good as was HvyMax and most of the folks against the bills.

For those of you who say a guy enter late in the day - I am guessing 4:00 or so - long leather trench style coat, gray stubble, glasses, balding obvious from the back view - that was me. Yeah I stepped on a water bottle somone left in the aisle that made a crunching noise.

Frosh: Why do you need more than 10 rounds?
    Bill: Why do the police?

That was as close as I saw to an adversarial exchange.

When I turned around it looked like everyone was gone, so I said Hi to HvyMax and headed for home. The ride was a hellish experience. Next time I go, I am stopping in town to have something to eat. Maybe some of my MDS brethern will join me.

To give all of you another approach, I think that asking this question repeatedly would beat the drum for meaningful changes that would push all gun legislation to the back burner:

"Why was he on the street?"

What I mean by this is: it's my opinion that legislators have abdicated their duty to the citizens by allowing seriously dangerous criminals back onto the street to pray upon the population.

EACH and EVERY time I see a crime where the bad actor is named, I go and look them up here:

    http://casesearch.courts.state.md.us/inquiry/inquiry-index.jsp

In EVERY Case, it's not their first time with the criminal justice system.
We have convicts who have multiple handgun charges walking among us. WHY THE HELL IS THAT?

They want to pass all this crap, when what they really need to do is to lock up dangerous people and keep their ass locked up. I can not stress this point too much.

I will try and drive this point home in every communication I have with these legislators.
