The one I'm ponderin' on is the rear sight. Colorado Gun sales sells the weld on Swiss style rear sight bases, which would negate the need for modifyin' the rail. Problem is, havin' a sight base ain't a whole hell of a lot of good without havin' the sight to go in it, and I don't see the one mounted on the rail bein' compatible.

That wouldn't work anyway. The rear sight bases are meant to be welded directly on the receiver. They would sit to high otherwise. They did have a clamp on version that had a short rail section, clamp on rotary diopter, and front sight. I've never seen them under $500 which like all SAN Swiss products is crazy expensive. It would have been nice to have proper height sights though, the SIG USA ones are junk.

So what you're saying is with the weld-on Swiss rear sight base, even with the proper sight to mount in it, it wouldn't line up with the existing front sight?

Correct, unless you mounted it directly to the receiver, which means modifying the existing rail since it is full length on the top and got a new matching Swiss front sight. The SIG USA sights are much taller. The SG550 series even has different marked front sights from the factory when they are tested. They get marked with a "N", "N+" or "N-" depending on whether the rifle shot high, low, or normal. These are used to achieve a more precise zero for each rifle. I am fairly certain that the Clamp on sight has a special height front sight to match (that's why it is included).
