I'm thinking about another AR upper with a 1 in 7 twist. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions concerning bullet grain weight for this particular rate of twist? Thanks!

Here is a late comment: the heavy bullets are also expensive, and have no advantage except extreme long range-windy conditions, or hunting medium sized game. I would not be concerned to have a 1-7 twist, nor would I particularly look for that fast a twist. 1-8 is excellent and even 1-9 is generally considered fine for up to 69 gr bullets and excellent for lighter bullets (which are more likely to be found in the current climate).

A quality barrel from a reputable maker is the key to a fine rifle, twist is dependent on what bullets and use it will be put to.

If you are going to shoot xtc hp matches, a 1 in 8 would do fine. Many shoot 69gr at 200yds, 77gr at 300yds, and 80gr for the 600yd slow prone stage.

If you will be shooting all stages at 200yds as is done at the AGC you can even use 55gr.
