That's an awesome pick-up! I'm just a bit green eyed! Congrats Dave!

Been looking for a while, I stopped in a shop in Va, was taking a look for anything that caught my eye, didn't see anything and was BS'ing with one guy when the other guy started bring some old .22's out the back to put on the rack. I looked at them, wasn't real impressed, was about to leave when he brought this out the back and sat it on the table, i said what cal is that 99?? He said .308. when i seen the price i was just about sold. Looked though the bore and it was ugly, i told him i cant tell if its that dirty or if they shot corrosive ammo through it, he took it in the back and ran a patch for me.. came out clean as a whistle. SOLD...

ill go grab a pic of mine to compare

Is it a brass or aluminum rotor? My understanding is they are a little different. My guess is aluminum?

This was the 336Y from Hogsniper? Glad that it's mechanically sound. Great deal for a pretty capable truck gun.

Yes its from Hog Sniper (gooddeal by the way) and that's what it was bought for, a camp gun. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive, no tears when scratched.

That's sweet, must be a pretty early gun. Most of the .308s are after they switched. The rotor position looks right to me.

P.S. These are a B&TCH to take a part and require some special tools.

Awesome! I think it's fairly early, I need to go look at the lever for a letter. I tried to look up by serial number but it showed a letter = year chart. Right now I'm sitting at the kids TKD class. And have a busy day ahead of us.

No luck on the lever mark, its worn off to the point i cant read what i think is it. There is a 76 in another mark, but i know its Pre 1960 by some other info i found on the net. just not sure what year, one thing has a section to enter the serial number but it just tells me its 1951 or later. so somewhere between 1951-1960.. not that it helps a ton.. anyone got any with a serial number in the 900,000 range and happen to know what date theirs is??

Got the 99F out to the range today, Internal mag worked great, everything functioned as it should, even with the Old Tasco scope on it, i was banging out bullseyes at 100 yards. I was surprised by the amount of felt recoil that it gives. Its a pretty light gun so with that .308 round and if you dont have it in the right place, she gives ya a little nudge.:lol2:

Ya they are sweet. Im convincing myself that I need a Win 94 in .32 Spl and a Marlin in .35 first. Need to start cruising local gunshows for that right deal.

I have a 32 special, and a Marlin in 35 Remington is high on my radar right now!

    Picked this up today

Might not be the prettiest as it looks like he used something on the receiver that took blue off, but the price was right...

    savage 99F .308

You stole that! I have an old Savage 99 (300 Savage) and I LOVE it!

I know the (sharp) feeling. I have a Browning BLR in 308 that's also pretty light and beyond getting it sighted in, I won't play with it as long as with a heavier Remington 700 in the same caliber when at the range. But if I had to choose one to carry in the field, the BLR starts looking mighty attractive.

Yeah, I knew it was a good price. I'd say average I've seen in this cond is about 425.00.

Yeah, it lets ya know. At least on yours the butt pad is there. The metal but plate on mine seems to hit just the right spot. :lol2: .. Ive shot all kinds of milsurps with large cals and metal but plates and not felt as bad. Might have to find the sweet spot to shoulder. I put I guess 40 or so rounds through it today.

    Rossi 92 .44 mag, 16"

Then courtesy of a fine gentlemen.

    Savage 1899 Takedown .250-3000

    Savage 1899 Takedown .22 HiPo

Both unmolested (the Williams sight on the .250 uses the existing tang holes).

Time for an updated family portrait. MDS members have contributed a few of these.

    The Blues

    100_1649.JPG

Winchester AE 30-30, This was actually my grandfathers gun.
Winchester AE Trapper .45 One of my favorite shooters
    Winchester AE Trapper .357
Marlin 1894P 16" ported barrel in .44 mag. They didn't make many of these. Love to find the .357 one but they are even more scarce.
Rossi 62 .22LR Carbine, Fun fun plinker.

    The "Shinys"

    100_1644.JPG

    Marlin 1895SS .45-70
Rossi 92 - 454 Cassull 16" - These are about the ultimate utility lever gun! Shoots .45LC well and can load from tube or side. Love to have another to build a field gun out of. Sometimes hard to get.
Rossi 92 .357 16" One of my favorite camp guns, truck gun beater.
    Rossi 72 .17HMR Carbine (yes 17 HMR)

    The "Old Men"

    100_1653.JPG

    Savage 1899 Takedown .303 Sav
    Savage 1899 Takedown .250-3000

Both well worn (or loved) but great shooters, love to snag one on .30-30.

Congrats on the new guns! The Savages must have been particularly satisfying to add to the collection, especially takedown models. At what point did the pistol grip become an option in the '99s? Notable that you got both stock types.
