Okay, in the process of getting a LE 870 P from a source well known on this site. However, the utility of a 'P' shottie isn't the main reason I'm getting this, it'll help, but I want a fantastic shooter for a number of different targets.
I'm looking for a rifled barrel, one without sights, the receiver can accept a pic rail so I can move my ACOG from my M4 to the slugger without issues. Since most of MD is a slug area (hmmmm) what do the pro shooters recommend.
Note Rem has what I thought the perfect slug barrel, a 25.5", fluted and rifled, but they don't sell them outright and you're required to send the receiver in for 'fitting' to replace the barrel. So, what's everyone using?
A good bird barrel advice wouldn't hurt since that'll probably be my main thang. Any other ideas to turn this jewel into a WM of old?
    Thanks.

you can go to Dlogrus and buy a replacement Hastings Barrel, I have 2 one on a 11-87 and One on a 870 with rifle sights, Both shoot very nice . I also have 54 cases of Hastings 3" sabots for sale if you are interested. Also check out Gunbroker and Vintage Shotguns.

Get a cantilever barrel if you're going to shoot slugs with an optic. If you're going for migratory birds, you're going to have a tough time finding a plug long enough for the tube.

Thanks for the info, where is Dlogrus?

I'm thinking a dowel cut to fit should do the job, unless someone else has a better idea?

Finally, would having the Acog mounted on the receiver make a more stable platform than having it mounted on the barrel? Just curious.
    Thanks!

If it's mounted on the barrel, the zero stays the same even after you remove and put the barrel back on. I wouldn't put an Acog on an 870, I'd rather put a small red-dot on it. For $69.99 you can put a Bushnell mini-red dot on the cantilever and hunt deer with it.

I like the way you think. Going with the cantilever and dot, makes sense, leave me Acog on the M4.
    Thanks!
