Seriously though, ammo prices in general have to come down after November right? I've only been into shooting for about a year so I don't know what the normal trends are over the years.
I'm kind of thinking to hell with gold...ammo may be a better retirement investment.

It took some time for prices to come back down... I think it was mid-2009 before things even started getting to normal. Some of it might depend on who wins, but don't kid yourself: the industry totally has a narrative ready for "Romney as gun grabber" to drive sales. And people will believe it, rightly or wrongly.
The ship has already sailed on 5.56x45... vendors want 25c a round for it, even steel-cased. 9mm appears to still be worth getting; I see some very cheap Silver Bear online, so a case of that might not be such a bad plan.
