What is the draw/attraction to this caliber??????

What are the pros and cons (other than cutting/sizing brass) of the caliber????

I just don't get the attraction to it.

I think it has something to do with .30 caliber ballistics using a smaller cartridge.

Also can be loaded in to regular AR magazines and it fits a regular AR bolt; only a barrel switch required IIRC.

And some rounds can be loaded into .223 rifles and cause a kaboom. I don't get the attraction either, unless you've got a suppressor. Otherwise, it's a so-so deer round.

    Pros

    7.62x39 ballistics in a true AR15 platform.

    Reliable

All parts, excluding the barrel, interchange with 5.56/.223

    Good suppression with subsonic rounds

    Bigger holes

    Ideal for SBR platform

    Why not?

    Cons

    Ammunition cost

Suppressed in a short barrel is what it was designed for. So if you want a super quiet and compact CQB rifle that has the thump of a .45 and the ability to immediately become a 300 yard gun with a 9 inch batrel with just a magazine change than this is for you. However, to get that setup you need time and treasure.

Very good .30 cal ballistics in a short barrel. So an AR pistol can be stubby and effective.

No real draw for me to build one other than to prove a point that Mooseman and I had been in agreement about for a good while before his passing.

Watched a guy put way to many rounds of 300 blackout into a pig on a pig hunt. They were well placed shots.

My 30-30 only took one shot each for two different pigs.

I just don't get the attraction to it.

Join me at the range and experience it for yourself.

My primary reason for using this cartridge is the ability to suppress it. While not actually movie quiet out of a semiautomatic it's dam close.

Secondary reasons include standard .223 magazine, bolt and lower receiver.

Think about the hunting opportunities! Hog, deer and coyote to name a few.

Here's a photo of one of mine. AAC Upper on an Engage Armament lower with an AAC 7.62-SDN-6 Can.

Sounds like he was using the wrong ammo. Many of the common subsonic loads commercially available do not expand.

These, plus you get 7.62X39 ballistics with a .308 bullet so you don't have to keep .311 bullets around in addition to .308 if you reload and have other .308 rifles.

Pig hunting with subsonic .300 BLK is like Pig hunting with a .45 ACP. I'd use supers.

    I've shot/killed two hogs.

One was 210 lbs (on the hoof). .44 magnum Dan Wesson 44-VH4 barrel. One shot at 7 feet. Dropped dead, where he stood.
    240 gr JHP handload.

One was over 350 lbs (on the hoof). .45-70 Gov't. 20 +/- yards. One shot. Boom. Thump.
    Dead where it stood.
    405 gr LWNGC handload.

This is another reason I ask about the .300 Blackout.
Granted, the rounds that you talk about could have been something that just didn't expand or expend it's energy into the game.
It just doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy inside.:shrug:

Subsonics are interesting, but for hogs, I'd have used supersonics. They still suppress very well. Not "whisper quiet" but they're definitely hearing safe.

Definitely. Different ammunition for different situations. The versatility makes this round incredibly attractive. I just wish ammo prices would start going down a bit.
