Okay well technically it was last Monday. I had mailed off my order to the CMP for a field grade M1 Garand in early October. This is what I recieved and I'm very happy with it.
It's a Springfield Armory 5.8 million S/N, putting it made in 1955. The wood was very greasy, but a good cleaning revealed sound wood and even some nice grain here and there. I was a little nervous knowing the condition of field grades, but I am so glad I got mine with no cracks in the wood and nice metal finish. Even the barrel gauges within service grade specs (MW 2+, TE 4+), and has a nice clean crown.
This is a rifle I never thought I would be able to own, but it's safe to say that I now have Garanditis. I can't wait to take it to the range!
