If police happen to see a gun in your car, do they have the right to seize it and run the serial number?

I'm asking because of this video:

If you have a gun permit, do you HAVE to own the gun? If the gun has to be registered, does it HAVE To be registered to you as the cop is asking? Like if I have a permit, I can't carry my friends registered gun?

No law requiring registration. There's plenty of legally owned handguns in Md that the state has no record of the serial number. Very simple, unless I'm going to jail, keep your mitts off my gun.

Last year's changes in W&C say, according to both MSP and leaders of MSI, gun must be concealed on body or cased.

Okay yes they have the legal right to take the gun for officer safety, and yes that sucks.

But the way I read the law, if they take the gun and lets say its in a holster. removing it from the holster to run the serial number would be an illegal search. Same as opening a closed gun bag or purse, no reasonable suspicion based on having a wear and carry, no legal reason to open or remove from the holster.
