According to the article, the reporter sat down in front of her gun. Since we don't know all the facts, it's entirely possible that they were meeting to discuss how politicians are arming themselves and that was why she had her gun on the table, to show the reporter. The reporter may have asked about aiming quickly and the legislator said "it's got a laser, activated by this touch pad" putting her finger on the pad, without picking up the gun.

I can't remember how many times someone has screamed "cop bashing - you don't know what happened, you weren't there!!" - yet when it's a legislator, you just assume she did something stupid. In the article she clearly states the reporter chose to sit opposite the gun, and no circumstances are given for the laser operation.

You can't have it both ways!!

Agreed, a photographer that hasn't produced a pic or video of the incident, Huffington post reporting the story, and just one guys word for it and a quick audio recording does not make me confident this was the horrible incident that is being reported, in fact a gross over-reaction by Huffcompost is pretty much expected.

Why does anyone trust anything from the hotairpost?

Because they provide unbiased, highly factual reporting.

Did you know that Glocks have no safeties, but that's okay as long as your hand isn't on the trigger?

Did you know that people who drive SUVs are responsible for 9/11?

Did you know that winning 0.55% of the vote in the California Recall is a victory?

Did you know that plagiarizing is okay as long as you pay the settlement when the author sues you?

Did you know that Arianna Huffington's private jets and diamonds don't fund terrorism, but your SUV does?

Now you know! And knowing is half the battle!
