I was looking at my HQL for an expiration date and found it did not have one, but does state it is Valid for 10 years.

It got m thinking, Obviously a HQL is needed to purchase a handgun in MD,, is a current HQL needed to possess a hand gun that was aquired after 2013?

Purchase. There are several legal ways to obtain a handgun in Maryland without an HQL like:

    Be a veteran
    be a former LEO
    Inter-family transfer
make one (maybe, it's hard to keep up with the ongoing litigation)
    steal it :sarcasm:

Being a veteran fulfills the training requirement, but you still need a HQL

Copied from MD's HQL website. My buddy a retired veteran puchased a handgun by showing his DD214.

    Don't need an HQL.
    1. Active or retired member of the United States Armed Forces or National Guard and possesses a valid military identification card.
    Exempt from the training.
    1. Is an honorably discharged member of the armed forces of the United States or National Guard.

Bring it with you when you move here from another state. (If you moved here before Oct 2013 you didn't even need to register it with the State Police.)

I would like to get/have a Luger. Guess I'll have to start looking a little harder.
Get an 03 C&R. I talked my brother into doing that and he found a nice Luger at the Chantilly show last year. Having that C&R made it a simple process. (the C&R license won't do you any good within Maryland though)

I was considering doing that but as you point out it wouldn't do any good in the peoples republic and I wasn't planning on traveling. Just talk with the local FFLs and see if they can help find a reasonably priced shooter somewhere for me.

Sad news for old folks, 1973 was 50 years ago. 6 more weeks and C&R is 1974. A handgun doesn't have to be ancient to qualify, just old.

A link for you to drool over:

They will honor your 03 FFL and ship direct. You can call and ask questions about a specific piece on the phone.

If you want a shooter, keep an eye out for a nice Russian Capture.

Well you can have a C&R shipped directly to you from outside MD. That’s a plus
