Just got the email notice from MSP that my W&C application is done. Looked on line and it indicates that it is approved. Still waiting for the hard copy to come in the mail. I am one of those old farts who bought a bunch of handguns before the HQL process started in 2013 so I never got the HQL. I looked at the MSP website but I can't figure out how to add the HQL. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

Last time i helped a friend with his,he needed the physical permit in hand because you need to know the permit number and permit expiration! It is also a different log in page seperate from the licensing division.

You don’t need your permit in hand, all you need is the permit number off of the last page of your approved HGP application.

    MSI’s website has the instructions:

    MSI HQL Instructions

Make a donation to MSI while you are on their page.

Don’t be surprised if your HQL takes time. I am over a week and still waiting post HGP. I was in the same boat in regards to 2013.

I made a mistake when I filled mine out ,which delayed me a couple of weeks. Where it says " Permit Exempt " I thought they were asking if I was exempt from the HQL License. What it really means is that now that you have your W&C Permit you can automatically apply for and receive your HQL.

Dont step in the stupid puddle like I did

Sigh... well I hope it comes soon. I am waiting and I already ordered a pistol from South Carroll. I heard some guys got it in 48 hours.

12 days so far for me for a permit exempt application. Still Pending. When I called they claimed they were "inundated" and it could take up to 30 days.

So it takes a month to process a less invasive colonoscopy DAYS after a more comprehensive one?

HGP should preclude needing a HQL.

Only explanation is it is intentional...

If I had known this larger delay time I would have delayed my handgun purchase. South Carroll is sitting on the firearm. Sigh... I wonder if things will get worse now that a D is in the governor's office.

Two different processes , on different web portals .

Significantly , two different waiting lines . i.e. at any given moment , one could have a bigger backlog than the others .

    I understand that.
    Typical government efficiency.

So the State trusts an individual to carry a handgun, but not buy one.

    Makes perfect sense.
