Was not a fan, didn't like the grip, didn't like the trigger, didn't like the mag release and didn't like the sights. That changed with the 3rd gen SF series, the slimmer straighter backstrap just fits where the larger hump on the standard models doesn't, still don't like the rest of the list, but the much improved feel at least made it worth it to give one a chance. Gave a 3rd Gen 30SF a try soon after they were instroduced. Actually had cash in hand to buy an M&P 45 compact soon as they came out about 7 or 8 years ago, but the G30SF was smaller, 2 more rounds, felt better in the hand, and was cheaper. Loved the pistol, despite it's size it handled 45 very well, light recoil, little flip, it was easy to shoot fast.

I polished the trigger, radiused the button, and put a heavier trigger spring in to smooth it out, and lighten the 1st stage, then added a Ghost 5# fitted connector to take out overtravel and make the break crisper, and the gritty jerky flexy trigger felt good for all of $23. Tried a few mag releases, ended up shaving down the too long competition release, that was till the Vickers came out, longer than stock, locks in with a loud click, yet no longer than needed to avoid snagging or accidentally releasing. The stock extended mag was smooth and slick, greatly improved by a Peirce floorplate that matches the look and texture far better, on the G27 I usually pocket carry with a standard mag, but have a peirce +1 and my spare CCW G23mag with x-grip to give a full grip. Swapped the sights with Trijicon/Novaks, and couldn't be happier, at least till I discovered Arotek night sights later on. I have since bought a G20SF, and finding the Gen4 models in all calibers have the same improved SF style grip, I picked up a G27G4 most recently. All 3 have the same work, except for the G30 having my old favorite Novak sights, and the G20SF and G27G4 with Aroteks. They all shoot great, I carry one of the 3 depending on weather and circumstance, the relatively minor functional mods just plain work well for me. I feel all 3 have a good powerful and controllable caliber in their respective frame sizes, and am happy they turned me into a fan.

I used 3M rubberized grip tape. I bought some from Amazon and more from eBay last year. I've done about 6 handguns and so far so good. You can buy it pre-cut but I just get the sheets and make a template first out of paper. Definitely not the neatest job but it works.

Great thread! I bought my first Glock, a 19 Gen IV, a couple of months ago...love it. I wanted something simple, no frills, just do the job. Glocks fill the bill.

I've always wanted a .45 1911, more out of my love of history/nostalgia...but now, I think I'll have to go with a G21 or G41...more likely the 21.

If you're looking for a G19 sized 45, consider the G30 or G30S as well. I have a G30 and love it for carry when I go out of MD.
