I accidentally bought a box of 300 grainers and I can't figure out what speed they need to expand. I'll be loading them in 45 colt and I think I can get them up to about 1200 fps with H110. Anyone have info on these bullets? I only found one load for them and that was a 460 S&W load moving at about 2k fps.

    I see a 45 Colt Ruger and T/C only load for it, but it's listed as W296 starting at 17.9 grains@ 1050FPS and Max load 21.7 grains@ 1300FPS
    From Hornady's 9th edition

That bullet was designed for the 454 Casull and similar rounds. It has a heavier jacket to prevent deformation entering the forcing cone of revolvers. It should expand at 1200 but not as much as a regular bullet.

Cassull and 460 SW rounds run up in the 1600 fps area

I'd use them. At lower velocities the cavity usually spreads and the nose flattens, might even be enough to roll over a little, but not enough to start much core expansion. At worst it's not much different than a Keith bullet which has taken plenty of game

This 250 gr. 452 went stem to stern in a sika buck the other week. Found it in the rectum when I was cutting it out ( what a sh***y way to go) it weighs 221 gr now 40 gr 4759 @ about 2000fps or so. IMG_0832.JPG

    Where da OP be at?
I'm here! Tapatalk didn't give me any reply notifications.

I'm going to load them up as hot as they'll go and see what happens. I only bought them because I'm using H110 and it really only hits its potential with heavy bullets.

I'll be slinging these pills with a Henry big boy.

With another 8-10 for shipping. I avoid Midway and Brownell's whenever possible.

They all git ya one way or another unless you're lucky and can buy local. It's rare that I need to order just one item so I collect them in my wish list until I have enough to somewhat justify the shipping. My next order is going to be over $150 so I may wait for a free shipping or $10 off special.
