I grew up 3 miles from an Iroquois reservation. They are more supportive of having a helo named after their tribe than having NY State screw over their treaties about no taxes. They want out of NY more than most Upstate NY-ers want out of NY, and they were there first.

They need to speak out and be heard.

Wait until they hear about the BLACKhawk.
Blackhawk is a Native American name also. He was a war chief of the Saux and Fox confederation (my tribe as was Jim Thorpe) who fought the US government in the 1800's because the whites wanted their land for the known copper deposits (plus they fought on the side of the British in the War of 1812). The other chief, Keokuk, led the rest of the tribe across the Mississippi. After they lost the war they were moved a couple of time till they ended up in OK Indian Territory.
The reason the NHL Chicago team is named the Blackhawks is because their tribal land was south of Chicago.

AH-1's original name was the Iroquois Warrior then Bell changed it to Huey Cobra and that got shortened to Cobra.

That crap you learn when your class gets volunteered to dust the aircraft at the old Aviation Museum at Mother Rucker back in the day.

The Army initially didn't want the AH-1 and went out to develop the AH-56 Cheyenne. That program had problems and was eventually cancelled. The Air Force didn't want the Army to have attack helicopters at all. The only time the Air Force truly supported the A-10 was to counter the AH-56.

The Army adopted the AH-1G and used it in Viet Nam, during the Tet offensive. The Marines fell in love with it and fielded the AH-1J.

As for the AH-56, that program got re-configured and led to the AH-64 Apache.

Maybe the US military's next helicopter could be called the Raging Liberal. It would have a hybrid powertrain, and be equipped with a large sound system capable of inflicting harsh language upon your opponent.

Yeah, I know, don't give them any ideas.

Sadly, the Navy is spending Billions on an alternative energy source for its aircraft. This stuff costs about 10 times more than traditional jet fuel and after seeing the presentation on the fuel based on camelina, we would need to harvest a crop roughly the land mass of Brazil to support just the DoD. Hows that for "sustainable" energy?

You joke, but remember the guys at the top of the DoD are there at the whim of the President. The crap at the top trickles down.
