Unfortunate Circumstance, but they have a way of mitigating this issue, and I am sure contingencies have been thought through. Unlike Baltimore City, Camden is a municipality within the County, therefore they will be covered and have the backing of the County Sheriff's office as well. Baltimore City is its own jurisdiction, not a municipality.

While Camden is a lot larger , the basic underlieing concept is common.

Lots and lots of small municipalities crunch the numbers between having their own PD , or contracting with larger Agency , usually County, to provide coverage , and to what extent.

I grew up and graduated in Moorestown. My brother is a cop in Pennsauken. What they are trying to do is form a regional department. Right now, every city in the county has it's own police and fire department. The states proposal is to take all the cities in Camden County and combine them under one force.

Originally when this plan was proposed several years ago there was no requirement for a city to join up, they could keep their own city police department if they wanted. Now there is a bill being pushed through by Christie that will withhold state funding and aid to any city not onboard with the new plan.

So far there has been no mention of salaries, benefits or any real information being given to the current members of the police forces, just alot of talk about how much money this will save the state. Personally, I don't believe it.

I graduated in 1989 and from the time I was a kid Camden has been a $hithole. More money has been dumped into that cesspool than can be believed and not one thing has changed. Yeah, they got the Battleship, you also have the ballpark and the concert arena and the waterfront redevelopement that was supposed to "revitalize" the downtown area. All they did was try to goldplate a turd, underneath it's still a turd. Take one wrong turn trying to get out of that city and you are lucky to get out alive, literally.

I can't speak for all departments in New Jersey but I know Pennsauken does not get comp time to work out or change uniforms. They are dressed and ready to go for roll call and if you want to work out, you do it on your own time.

Camden used to be a nice little city. A lot of professionals that worked across the river in Philly lived in Camden and took the ferry to work.

The Camden area was also home to Campbell Soup, RCA, and many ship builders and refineries. Most of that industrial jobs base is all gone now - just like Sparrows Point here - with the exception of the refineries and chemical plants along the river. And while not specifically a 2A issue, one of my biggest fears for this country is that we will get to where we don't make anything, and owe everybody, and become extremely vulnerable as a nation.

DC used to be described as "a sleepy southern town". Parts of PG County that even the police don't want to go in were once quiet rural areas.

This is what happens when .gov gets involved in the social engineering business, in particular Lyndon B. Johnson.

Remember the mantra "Share the wealth"? There is a deliberate move to merge the "rich" counties with the "disadvantaged" cities. This is the real drive behind regional solutions.

My brother lives in Barrington and has friends that are firemen, medics, and police officers. My brother is an Engineer in the volunteer fire department in Barrington. Camden even has wanted "mutual aid" agreements that volunteer departments from surrounding towns routinely cover parts of Camden. It's been highly resisted.

My ex-sister-in-law is an EMT and she worked in Collingswood (sorry for all you folks not from there, but inkd will know where I mean) for a while. They got called into Camden and the rule was that they were not allowed to enter without police escort and they had to be wearing their department issued body armor! Ambulances and fire trucks routinely got rocks and bottles thrown at them.

I still advocate letting the battleship New Jersey shell the city. It would be spectacular. Even more spectacular would be dusting off the USS Olympia (Admiral Dewey's flagship), moored on the Philly side of the river, and letting her join in the shelling.

Friggin' animals. I still advocate letting the battleship New Jersey shell the city. It would be spectacular.

I try to explain to people how bad it is but you can't really get anyone to understand unless they have been there.

My brothers Ex wife was on the Pennsauken PD too. When she was in training her and the T.O. chased a suspect into the heart of Camden at 3am. They had radioed for back up and the Camden PD car that met them told them they better get the guy out of the car and outta there or the crowd will tip over their car and set him free. She looked around and it looked like something outta Escape From New York, people everywhere moving in. They yanked him outta the wrecked car, chucked him in their cruiser and hauled a$$. Camden PD didn't even get out of their cruiser!!!!

I don't see this county department making a huge difference. At least with Camden. If they wanted to save the state money, cutt he entitlements to the career welfare recipients in that city alone and it would be instant profit.

Then load up the battleship and have at it  :party29:

ooooooooooooo, aaaaaaaaaaaah, shock and awe, New Jersey. I wanna watch.

Come on up, I am sure they could use some technical expertise on the weapons system. I'll be across the river on Delaware Ave sipping a cold one and watching the show!!!!!!

This is going to end badly.

That's pretty much how I feel too. Hopefully if it is an abject failure they will pull the plug on it but I could see them keeping it in place just because they wouldn't want to admit to it failing.

Anytime a politician says how much the new plan will save money, I just start cringing.

Clinton during the 70's was a decent place to go and even live. Now it looks like DC Lite. Same with Charles as well. :sad20:

Haven't been in Calvert since I lived there in the mid 80's, somehow I bet the bumper stickers of "Keep Calvert Country" has lost their battle. :mad54:

That place is the biggest S-hole I ever been. Won tickets from Elliot to see a show up there. It makes Sandtown-Winchester look like Georgetown. Hotel staff put us in a cab to Philly to get beer because it was safer than Camden!

Why not arm the decent citizens there and let them police the city.

The decent citizens left a long time ago.

    Recipe for Disaster

Start with a small burg, bedroom community or municipality.
Add subsidized housing while raising taxes on the middle and upper class (includes manufacturing industry small businesses)
Blend politicos with municpal workers unions via pay & benefits for donations and votes symbiosis
Separate burg from tax weary businesses and citizens who flea to survive
Bake in unfunded liability for those genrous labor contracts handed to muni unions and politicians
Voila! Community falls like a bad souffle and AYCE chaos ensues

    Sad really...

We've held our own pretty well, there's a hint of yuppy urbanite's, but for the most part Calvert is still as it should be - quiet. ;)

I hope it does for your sake, it wasn't a bad county BUT the drive from Lusby to AAFB in the morning was a somebitch, really started backing up on 4 before Tucker's, I can only imagine it now.

Have you been to the ranch club lately?

    Or White Sands... :innocent0

Granted, we have had some intrusion, but thankfully, it's pretty much stayed where it is..., for now. Most of the guys on the tac-team work the southern end of the county for a reason. ;)

After commuting from NOVA to Jessup via 295, NB Rt. 4 traffic is a joke.
