Whatever happended to "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore" ?

I've thought long and hard about 'voting with my feet', but dammit, I was born here and lived all of my life here, and I won't walk away from everything I've worked for because we've become overrun by progressive/liberals and crooked politicians.

If you are as sick and tired of 'business as usual' in the PRofMD as I am, become an activist. ChangeMaryland has been picking up and average of 2K members per week. Larry Hogan's grassroots organization message is a simple as the one delivered by Peter Finch in Network.

    Dear Friends,

I have spent a lifetime challenging the status quo, fighting against tax increases and wasteful spending, fighting to reform government and to make Maryland a better place. And in spite of the tremendous odds stacked against us, I am not ready to give up the fight.

That's why I founded this non-partisan, grassroots organization called Change Maryland, because the stakes are too high for us to just sit back and accept the status quo.

Our mission quite simply is to organize, inform and energize average Marylanders to fight back and to bring some much needed fiscal restraint and common sense to Annapolis. We simply can not allow an arrogant monopoly in Annapolis to run this great state into the ground without debate, without opposition, and with no checks and balances.

All Marylanders - Republicans, Democrats and Independents - suffer when the professional politicians and the special interest groups go unchecked and continue to push the same failed tax and spend policies, year after year. The sad truth is that the one-party monopoly that rules Annapolis has a failed record of lost jobs, higher spending, record tax increases and broken promises. It's unacceptable and Marylanders deserve better. I think it's time we said 'enough is enough'. The time has come for us to stand up together and fight back for a change.

This is not just a fight about the differences between the right and the left. This fight is about the difference between right and wrong. It isn't just another fight between Republicans and Democrats. It's more important than that. This is a fight for Maryland's future.

My hope is that you won't give up on our state and that you will become a part of this important fight for Maryland's future. With your help, with all of us working together, I truly believe that we can send a loud and clear message to Annapolis and that we can Change Maryland for the better. Please join us by "liking" our ChangeMaryland facebook page, and going to our website at www.changemaryland.org to volunteer, contribute and join the fight!

    Sincerely,

    Larry Hogan

Guns arent even in my top 5 of reasons for leaving. The crowdedness, and type of people we have are on the list. the cost of living and crime are also up there. Guns are just a bonus.

Also getting your car inspected every year. Or is it every other year? I'm surprised Md doesn't do this.

Every year. Cost me the price of a new windshield and front rotors/pads on top of the inspection sticker. That was before I paid for the plates. Had emission checks every two years in Indiana, but at least they didn't charge for it.

There'd be a lot less cars on the road in MD if they required safety inspections like VA's.

Three good reasons to leave the peoples republic of Maryland- 1.taxes 2.Taxes 3. TAXES.
For those that think too much is spent on roads, try finding a job building them. The biggest project in recent years was the ICC which is a toll road. There has been a fair amount of repaving roads that didn't need it thanks to the so called stimulus, what a waste. I can even remember when money was taken from the transportation fund and placed into the general fund so they could build stadiums. Bridges are in serious need of repair and have been for years. Guess they will wait until one of them collapses before anything is done. Rt. 32 is a nightmare, they knew it needed expansion decades ago. Most of the road projects are done in areas that are controlled by the people who keep the democrats in power. Many companies that do road construction have either gone under or are struggling to survive. Those who work for them are constantly being told "Just be glad you have a job.". I've spent 33yrs in the construction field and I have never seen it this bad.
The only thing keeping me here is that the wife simply refuses to move.

That's easy, when you go target shooting just say you were hunting.
I would have a lot of fun with a stupid law like that, I love cannons.

or self defense of the zombie squirrels!...the OP is for one county in NC...and by the looks they are fighting it. There are many more states and options better than MD...it is all what people are willing to do, willing to move and if they can get a job they want to do. I am going to a state where its $20 concealed carry license in a SHALL ISSUE state--good for 5yrs and renewal is $15, you can OC, no 7 day wait, no Bear draw tag I can just buy a tag, the deer limit is down to 1 but I can hunt Elk, wolves, MT lion. There are less jobs but there are jobs available nonetheless..
I for one cant wait to leave MD very soon!:D

I GTFO of MD in 2008, best decision I have made, I was looking for an overall improvement in quality of life, lower cost of living, and that I could commute to Cockeysville from, so the list was relatively short. There are some headaches, the weird patchwork of boroughs, townships, counties and cities that make up a commonwealth, the taxes, the inspections, and the different laws. All in all it was a huge gain, I have an affordable house, kept my decent job, more relaxed mindset, lower cost of living, improved freedom, and of course real tangible gun rights, for me at least, there is no doubt I moved on up. I still work with MSI for MD gun rights, show up to hearings, write letters, and do what I can to contribute, my family is still in MD, I still technically work in MD(work from home, but still commute every now and then), and I have spent so much time and effort as part of MD's gun rights community that I really want to see it through. I have become involved in PA's gun rights community too, it's a huge community with lots of support, and the will to attack any little gun control proposal like the plague it is, although it still needs help, and there is a lot of work to be done.

The point is that our rights are under attack everywhere, and advocating for rights is a way of life that is desperately needed everywhere. Up here the culture is different, and things that are common, like constitutional open carry, and shall-issue concealed carry are still dreams in MD, but there is plenty of fight to be had. Every few years the state tries some BS law, or proposes to get rid of a current restriction, I think mostly to see if we are still awake and if gun rights/control will win or lose elections. Pro-gun politicians and anti-gun politicians are alike in that they both want to be re-elected, in many cases more so than pushing their own agenda or the principals of their party. Even with big wins, there is still plenty to do at the state level, in PA now, the big thing is bringing guidelines for police interaction in compliance with the law, and working on constitutional carry. There is also federal law, NICS and ATF interactions to work on, and even taking more of a role in pro-gun organizations, thy can often help governments come up with better paperwork and policies, and will listen to members in what gun laws to go after next.

Unfortunately the cancer of gun control support is moving ever-outwards as liberal populations who can afford to move away from states their social and tax policies have already turned into economically depressed crime-ridden wastelands. And onto new ground in neighboring states. Washington, Idaho, Virginia, Pennsylvania are all experiencing it. Once free Connecticut with their draconian gun laws is a good example of how it ends up.

If your not willing to fight here, will you be willing to fight when the transplants come?

Let's see, I moved from Maryland less then a month ago. Sold my 3 br 2 bath single family in Rockville for $320,000 and bought a 3br,3ba with gas fire place and sunroom, loft, garage and it's got a clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, shuffle board and a lake stocked with fish.
You have to supply your own rod and bait. The 1975 square home, aside from the garage was $171,000 plus $210 a month for HOA that covers all other things like snow removal.
Twice the house for half the price. Fredericksburg has so many great places to dine, shop and amusements,I'm LOVIN IT. PS, if your 65 or over, there's no transfer tax on cars. Great CRAB place down the road!

Are you retired? One of the big issues for people like me is that where these great places are, there don't tend to be great jobs or great amounts of other young people.

For all of you that bitch about MD and its Taxes I can say that the roads in Frederick and Washington Co are very nice and it worth.

Back in 2004 my dad moved to FL and what did he do complain about poor roads etc, like i told him no income tax and all around lower taxes don't get you as much.

A great deal of the road work in this state seems to function mainly as a money laundering scheme, whereby public funds are transferred to corrupt politicians and their private sector cronies.

    Great points, all...

I was raised here, came back to raise my family here, and my oldest has moved back to raise his here. It's a beautifully varied state, and one of the few places in the country where you can throw snowballs in the morning, then go swimming and need a snowball in the afternoon! Wildlife, forests, outdoor activities, agriculture... it's all here.

The onerous government we have needs to be changed, no doubt. Gun laws, taxes, regulation... all stink on ice. But relocating rather than taking a stand (for us) is a last resort.

I'm suddenly reminded of the old Tareyton cigarette commercials... "Id rather fight than switch".

    Who's with me?

(and yes, I'll be checking out ChangeMaryland)

The New Deal, followed closely by Great Society... 9/11 was a co-optable event, and opened a door the center-right USA wasn't willing to have opened otherwise.

But they didn't exist in a vacuum.

This has been a process that began in 1913 under Woodrow Wilson, and was accelerated under FDR and the turbochargers were hit by Johnson. Sheikh Barry-O al Hawai'i was, IMO, a convenient creation to try and finish the conversion to a Euro-Socialist-Utopian State. I'm still not sure where the Muslim-appeaser thing fits in.

JFK moved back to the center, and maybe even too far right. He was not helping the shift that was envisioned.

Since none of us remember Wilson or his doings.... I dunno. Now FDR and to present you are onto something. The Great Society tho young I remember that and some of the talk about it...... THAT alone has to be in the top 10 maybe even Top 5.
