Had this happen to me on Friday out of my M&P 40 shooting factory reloaded 180gr ammo. I've never seen one pop like this before. Look to me like the round didn't chamber completely and the gun fired out of battery, but it also could have been bad ammo. I took a face full of powder and smoke and the pistol seems to have made it through unharmed with only a small chunk missing from the extractor. I'm going to have a smith look it over. Any thoughts?

Case head separation on factory ammo? Or did the round chamber funny, and pinch somehow?

Good thing no harm to you.

Most gun shouldn't fire out of battery. You sure it was?

    Maybe just bad brass..

    .
"factory reloaded" rounds - I'd be checking any remaining reloads carefully as well as having a smith take a look at the gun.

As a first time customer of Freedom munitions, I bought their reloaded 9mm, and their new 45 and 10mm. One of the 9mm luger rounds was actually loaded into a 9mm Makarov case. One of their new 45 auto loads was so undercharged that there was no slide movement and minimal recoil. The bullet did make it out of the barrel, though. I only bought from them because I can't find any pistol powder, and I don't think I'll buy from them again.

A buddy of mine got some of their ammo at a gun show and it was crap. I had to clear a stuck bullet from the barrel of his Governor.

Geez, I'm glad no one was injured and good luck with your extractor!

Note to self: stay clear for Freedom Munitions ammo. The only remanufactured ammo that I shoot regularly is Georgia arms .38 special - never had a problem. But then again, I'm shooting it in a revolver.
