Does anyone teach shoot from the hip with shotguns? When we tried that with you, Tom, we were shown how difficult it was to get on target with a shotgun at close range.

Understood. But shotguns were around well before the 60's, and presumably someone in the decades before this video would have figured out that shooting from the hip was not particularly effective.

I was wondering whether there was a legitimate tactical reason why that technique would have been taught, or whether it was just "flat earth" silliness.

Most bullet trajectories are predictable. If you learn how to move correctly you will see a 63% increase in efficiency in battle tactics.
